When I open the blog in the morning to start editing and posting, I always check the date. Today is April 18. Longfellow’s poem lept into my head! Which is why it’s today’s quote, above.
Paul Revere rode to warn the Minutemen, “The British are Coming!”
Does anyone remember why he did this? It was to keep the British troops from seizing arms and powder stored in Colonial magazines further up the road. It was the first ‘American’ experience of attempted gun control.
The 18th is also famous for the Doolittle Raid on Japan to avenge Pearl Harbor (1942).
The Battle at Lexington Green was the next day, the 19th. The ‘Shot Heard ‘Round the World’, and all that.
What else occured on the 19th? Waco (1993). And that whacko’s response to Waco, the Oklahoma City Bombing (1995).
Why am I bringing this up?
Because the back channels of the current administration are yet again, working on gun control measures! Another assault weapon ban, and another high-capacity magazine ban are in the mix. And the population is being distracted by the world situation, the economy and other issues.
But, we need to be Paul Revere, not Jimmy Doolittle or (God forbid) that Waco whacko.
Be your own Paul Revere! Get the word out! I just did.

Well said, Sir !

Posted by Tango Juliet | April 18, 2011, 10:48 amWhat everybody said! I teach new shooters for one reason. Once they have that tool I have won my political agenda without a word being said politically in class.
