As previously recounted, I’ve not been physically or financially able to shoot for some time.
New meds are helping be a little more mobile.
Recently, a new student appeared and offered to provide funds for the range, targets, ammunition and incidentals for me to teach him the ‘basics’.
And we’ve now had one classroom session, and two range sessions. Good stuff!
It does appear we will continue in this fashion.
But, there is a downside.
Weapons maintenance and cleaning.
There was a time, when apre-shooting, first the firearms would be cleaned, then other matters resolved.
In my absence from the range, and presence of other issues, I’ve fallen from the true faith. Forgive me.
Yesterday’s session showed me three things:
1. I need to practice more (e.g. dry practice)
2. A clean and appropriately lubed gun functions better – duh!
3. I lost my round-count on this recoil spring, and it need to be replaced.
And, sadly, there is one other element to the downside.
Long-dormant gun hormones have been re-awakened. I need to go shoot again. Soon.

Hey, we all shoot better with a few med's
Posted by Duke | October 4, 2011, 10:11 am@Duke – HAHAHA! I wish! These are for chronic nerve pain. They make standing and walking a little more tolerable.Don't do much to improve my groups, though.
Posted by Guffaw in AZ | October 4, 2011, 11:03 amI'm a little nuts in that I enjoy cleaning my guns almost as much as I enjoy shooting them. I think it's related to the "mindful act" of concentrating 100% on the job at hand and manipulating the guns to achieve the desired goals.
Posted by ExurbanKevin | October 4, 2011, 12:27 pm@ExurbanKevin – I used to, but, I've gotten out of the habit, and paid for it.
Posted by Guffaw in AZ | October 4, 2011, 12:30 pmTHERE'S a downside?!?!?!?
Posted by Tango Juliet | October 5, 2011, 5:39 am@TJ – only if one has 'issues', as I do.
Posted by Guffaw in AZ | October 5, 2011, 6:55 amAs a Glock fanboy I am compelled by the fine print on the back of my membership card to suggest that you buy a gun that does not need to be cleaned. Or can be run in the dishwasher.Having said that, welcome back.
Posted by Fill Yer Hands | October 6, 2011, 6:02 am@FYH – Thanks! I've owned three Glocks – a 17, 26 and 30. And, based on my recommendation, a number of my students have bought them. I may one day again own one(some). But, they are different from blued steel and walnut. They have no soul.PS – I used to know a guy who ran his old frame Ruger Security Six stainless in the dishwasher!
