In Memoriam

19 firefighters killed in Arizona wildfire were part of elite Hotshot crew (link)

There’s not much more to say.

Oft times in this venue, I write about my frustration with law enforcement, straddling the line between freedom and tyranny –  and seemingly inching toward the latter.

But firefighters, be they in the city saving people, homes and property, or in the country, doing the same + our majestic forests, lands and wildlife, need to be honored.  They are not as in the Ray Bradbury story – they are not starting fires.  They are not inching toward the latter.

They need to be honored, not just when they fall, but rather, when they do not.

Please take a moment today to do that.

  1. Horrible thing. I’ve heard that those little shelters they have do sometimes work, but more often not. And the heat and speed of a wildfire is horrendous.

  2. Sad loss, and the best of the best; however this time they lost the battle…As a former volunteer fireman, my heart goes out to those families who lost loved ones today. And the fire service WILL feel this loss for a long time.

  3. Thank you for your kind post Guff.
If anyone has an extra dollar the 100 Club is a great place to donate to.
They get money to the families sooner rather than later and I’ve personally seen them do great work.

    RIP Brothers.

  5. Update that probably no one will see, but hopefully learn about elsewhere:

The Westboro Baptist Church is promising to come and picket the funerals of the firefighters.
One of their recent tweets read: Westboro Baptist Church THANKS GOD for AZ fires that killed 19 firefighters!

I hope they get their @$$e$ handed to them.

    *sigh*
A lot of people have given their lives so that these morons can be attention hogs and hide it behind the 1st amendment.
