You’re NOT Jack Bauer!

You’re NOT Jack Bauer (And Other Reasons You Need to Stop Skimping on Training)

WRITTEN BY

Good thing!.  Tactically, he sucked.  and with regard to his ‘technique’…

Bauer grip

Well, THAT sucked, too!  Cup and saucer?  SERIOUSLY?

Regardless, go see Mr. Michalowski’s essay at the link above.  We need to keep training, especially because we are NOT finely-tuned spec-ops guys.

And we know better.

  1. Good article; short & succinct, but touches all the bases. Good reminder, too. Thanks!

  3. I didn’t read anything very controversial, though I’m always leery of articles about the indispensibility of training coming from guys whose business is selling training. He might have pointed out (as you kind of did) that Keifer Sutherland isn’t Jack Bauer either – in fact Jack Bauer doesn’t exist so if you find yourself fantasizing about being him, you’re almost certainly on the wrong track.

But still: Training good. Get some. Not a bad piece.

  4. From the link:
“Even if you survive the fight, you will be faced with a lengthy legal battle that will impact your emotional well-being, your bank account and your family. Training is the key to protecting all of those.”

    The way I read it:
“You didn’t avoid using your gun and now you owe every penny you have and a bunch of those you don’t to a lawyer. You wasted money on “pistol fighting training” when you should have had your head more in the game of Situational Awareness and Avoidance and gotten the hell out sooner. Hope you don’t go to prison.”
    YMMV.

And yeah, “training is truly needed and I can sell you some” strikes me like the CCW permit instructors that ABSOLUTELY didn’t want permitless carry in AZ.

FEAR

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." - Bene Gesserit, from Frank Herbert's Dune
