April Fool’s Day Classic

Back in the early 90’s, I was a credit card fraud investigator.  I worked with many people, but, my immediate supervisor was Lorna.  She was very nice, but politically was slightly left of Mao (just kidding), and definitely didn’t like the George Herbert Walker Bush administration.  She bought into the media character assassination of then V.P. James Danforth Quayle.  Then, one of my co-workers came up with an idea for an April Fool’s gag.
Early on April 1, my co-worker arranged to have his wife call him at work. She explained she had been watching the ‘news’, and the President had been taken to the hospital with chest pain.  Of course, this was bogus.  The telephone calls continued, with the President’s condition worsening.  Eventually, he announced that Dan Quayle had just become the President!
Lorna went nuts!  She believed all she had been told, and thought an inexperienced, unintellligent buffoon had assumed the mantle of the presidency.  Politics aside, this guy had been elected twice to the House, and twice to the Senate.  She really thought he would immediately declare war on the rest of the World (or something else ridiculous).  Eventually, she was told it was all a joke.  She wasn’t real happy with the co-worker, but, seemed happier, now, that GHWB was still President.
Don’t try this at home, or the office!  Some might go apopletic thinking Joe Biden was now President!

  1. Biden? At this point in time, I'll take him! He seems like the lesser evil.
