I don’t know about you, but I’ve developed the habit of not carrying cash or coin in my daily life. Most of my large transactions (like paying bills) are online, and the smaller day-to-day stuff (bagel shop, grocery, gas) uses my debit card. When before I was disabled, I used to use cash and throw my change into a jar. And sometimes cash it in when times were tough. They are tougher now, but, I don’t generate any more change! 😦
I know. In TEOTWAWKI, I’m screwed.
Not that cash has real value as a medium of exchange, anyway.
SO, if you want a truly depressing read, go to the link here from Charleston Voice. Then start continue hoarding canned and dry goods, water filters, ammunition, silver and medication. Oh, and toilet paper!
If you can afford to.
I’m not going to shed any tears if pennies & even nickels go away. It would seem strange, for a time, and then society will move on as it always has. Surmise: that “mark of the Beast” in the Bible … could it be a bar code?
I used to fantasize about getting a tattoo under my wrist watch of my SS# in magnetic ink bar code!
(very James Bond!)
But, the way things are going it’ll probably be eventually required soon, anyway!
😛
I always have cash and change on me. Probably just a lesson drilled in my head as a kid. Probably don’t need it though.
I still carry cash, but coins? Not so much. Even the parking meters downtown now take debit cards, so I don’t need to keep $$$ in quarters in my truck anymore.
And don’t forget Salt, Pepper, and COFFEE! 🙂 I still carry folding money and change, because I’ve had my debit card frauded before…
Caffeine! WOW, I forgot! Thanks.
I rarely carry cash anymore. If I have cash it’s usually because I put the lunch tab on my debit card and collected paper money from my buds at the table.
I like Pennies though! They’re fun to shoot out of a wrist rocket…highly unpredictable trajectory, a wicked sound, and they’re cheap! Well, they do cost the gubmint 2 cents to make, but they only cost me a penny a round. Oh, wait, I pay taxes. Crap.
Crap, Indeed!
