'everything that's old is new again', agenda, gun control, illegal, semiautomatics, The Bill of No Rights

Remember that ubiquitous 70s Fleetwood Mac album?  The one comedian Dennis Miller said everyone must have been issued?

This post has absolutely nothing to do with it.  Great album, though!

This post has to do with the current administration doing everything in it’s power (and some things beyond) to further restrict the civil rights of law-abiding American citizens.

In short, more gun control.  If not by legislative action, by government fiat.  Because they believe they can.

Gun Rights Examiner has all the dirty details.  In part:

An anti-gun owner initiative considered in Washington could lead to massive civil disobedience and a severe domestic crisis,” gun law expert John M. Snyder said today.

“According to confidential information,” he continued, “forces linked with the administration suggest the government classify semiautomatic firearms and multiple capacity ammunition feeding devices as Title 2 National Firearms Act items under the Gun Control Act of 1968.”

“Under this scenario, semiautomatics and high capacity magazines could be acquired only with great difficulty and at great expense by America’s estimated 100 million law-abiding firearms owners.”

One may hope these are only malevolent rumors.

As for me, I’m going back to listening to Mick Fleetwood and company…

  1. If memory serves, That’s the album that has “Chains” on it…. which seems very descriptive of the status we have with the federal government.

  2. Good luck with that, guys. If you really think that you’ll get 100% compliance even if you do get it passed, you are dumber than a box of rocks.

  4. There USED to be a provision in the law called ex post facto: you can’t make something illegal “after the fact”. I.e., It was legal to buy to semi-auto handgun when it was purchased; ex post facto stipulates that you can’t go back and make the purchase illegal, later.

Even though that concept seems to have been forgotten, I can’t imagine very many people complying with such an executive order. Of course, some would argue that an executive order isn’t a law, anyway.

    • Sadly Rev., it’s been done before.
Cocaine, heroin, LSD, and I think marijuana were all ‘legal’ once.
Ex-post-facto seems to be another part of the Constitution that has been ignored.

      • The point I was trying to make, however, is that executive orders are permitted by the Constitution only to help enforce existing laws, NOT to create new ones without Congress. Just another gross violation of the law by a federal administration – and no, it didn’t begin with Obama et al; he merely continues a trend.

      • True – BUT the key difference is that they did NOT go back and charge folks with ‘illegal’ use/possession after the fact. THAT is the difference here – they will attempt to go after any and all folks that have the newly deemed ‘illegal’ firearms – no matter how long they have been legally owned.

  5. What other Progressive started this trend? Woodrow Wilson? Teddy Roosevelt? Lincoln?

  6. As I’ve said before, he can’t legislate it, so he’ll ‘regulate’ it… going completely around Congress… Standby!!!
