Training ‘Personalities’

I’ve known and trained with some fine people.  Shot socially with others, and heard others speak.  Read even more works of other trainers and shooters.

They are (were) all people, and as such all had foibles.  They were human.

I could list some of the foibles:

  • One guy thought himself the be-all-and-end-all, but had a negligent discharge at the S.H.O.T. Show a few years back.
  • Another, a world-class competitor, shot his TV while dry-firing!
  • A third was on public safety disability and took a secret side job.  He atoned for this and is now square.
  • The fourth one was a ranking police officer and bought expensive rifles through his department authority, which he then sold to friends and acquaintances.  This was NOT against his department’s police at the time.  The press made this into he sold police rifles on the street!

Retain men (and women) for their skills in training you.  If you cannot get past an ego or personality (or an error in judgement), go elsewhere.

  1. And don’t forget safety!!! I cringe when I see some of these go fast trainer’s ads…

  2. With such a large number of trainers from which to choose, there is no need to pick one you’d be hesitant to have in a witness box after you’ve been forced to defend yourself.
