Tonight is New Year’s Eve!  (for those who just crawled out from under a rock where there was no Wi-Fi.)

The traditional celebration of the passing of the previous year, and the birth of the new.  Along with fond remembrance of times past.  This usually involves food and sometimes libations.

Please be careful out there, and if you drink, don’t drive (or text or phone!)  And watch out for those who have.

And take a moment to remember those who are no longer with you.  And love those who remain.

Because you never know…

“I’m Shocked! SHOCKED!” (Part whatever…)

Say Uncle brings us this titillating bit of ‘news’…

You should instead hire men who have guns.

In height of hypocrisy, Bloomberg wants to retain his security detail and is offering them money to leave the NYPD and come stay with him. This is a man who doesn’t think you should own guns.

Once again, paging Captain Renault…

Happy New Year! – President Signs NDAA 2014! We Continue To Get…

(insert euphemism for sexual insertion HERE)…and without having ever been kissed!

The House and Senate quietly passed it AGAIN, then The President signed it, AGAIN!

Not only is Gitmo not closed, but indefinite detention of American Citizens for ‘National Security’ purposes continues to be authorized!

AND…

The 2014 NDAA also includes a new provision that appears to bolster the national security surveillance state. Section 1071(a) authorizes the Defense Department to “establish a center to be known as the ‘Conflict Records Research Center’.” Using the dangerously broad terms now typical of national security policy parlance, the Conflict Records Research Center enables the DoD to compile a “digital research database including translations and to facilitate research and analysis of records captured from countries, organizations, and individuals, now or once hostile to the United States.” Who gets to be a surveillance target — the specific remit of “now or once hostile” — is troublingly ill-defined and unrestricted.

Quelle surprise.

Taoist Law Enforcement?

tao“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.”

From John Lott:

People in one Oregon county are substituting private for public provision.  From Fox News:

. . . The government in Josephine County, where nearly 70 percent of the land is owned by the U.S. government, had long relied on federal timber subsidies to pay the bills. When the feds terminated the funds, county officials scrambled to pass a May 2012 tax levy to make up a nearly $7.5 million budget shortfall.

However, the county’s residents voted against the levy, and as a result the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was gutted. The major crimes unit closed, dozens of prisoners were released from the county jail and the department reduced operations to Monday-Friday, eight hours a day.

Boxing Day Night Profundity

So, this Boxing Day night last, I’m sitting alone at the computer, trying to think of something profound.  Having failed miserably at that, I went to gunbloggers.com, and the most current post at the time was from The View From North Central Idaho.

My search for profundity stopped there!

From Lyle

A human right is a bit like the sun. The sun is essential to life. You can bask in it, or hide from it. You may be able to change people’s attitudes toward it, or even start a religion around it. You may hate it or love it, or be largely indifferent to it, or think anything you want to think about it. If you fail to deal with it properly it can burn or even kill you, but without it you are dead. You could get a group of sun haters together in the street and carry picket signs denouncing the sun, and you might even be able to lobby enough idiots and criminals in Congress to get laws passed denouncing the sun.

But two things will remain true no matter what you think or do. A) your life depends on the sun, and B) neither you, nor any group of people, any committee or government body, no force on Earth, has the power to alter it in any way. You did not create it and you cannot alter or destroy it.

Similarly, human rights can be respected and honored, or they might be despised and violated, but they cannot be created, granted, altered, revoked or destroyed by any force on Earth no matter how popular or powerful that force may be. That’s where we get…

You need to go and read the whole thing.  Especially if you don’t know the answer!

I really didn’t want to do this…

FEDbut threedonia reminded me how dire things have become.

In REAL terms:

On December 23, 2013, the Federal Reserve System will celebrate 100 years of centralized banking and printing funny money. The creation of the Fed marked the beginning of America’s rampant inflation rate. For the first 125 years of American independence, inflation of any significance did not occur. What $1.00 purchased in 1789 could be had for a very reasonable $1.08 by 1913. Measure that against what it costs today for the same amount of goods; roughly $25.00. This means the current value of today’s dollar is about .04 cents of what it was in 1913.

Ostensibly, the Federal Reserve System was put in place to prevent “bank panic,” stabilize the dollar and resist inflation. Democrat President Woodrow Wilson was convinced that “central planning” by the federal government could replace incremental market forces. He’d been influenced by a work of fiction called Phillip Dru: The Administrator, which glorified intrusive governmental intervention into every aspect of American life. In it, Colonel House – the book’s author and “adviser” to President Wilson – weaves a tale of “enlightened” central planning as a means to achieve “social justice.” So Wilson believed a Federal Reserve System would end poverty and cure all manner of imagined market woes. In a novel, even the most implausible concepts don’t have to be impossible.

It is important to note that the Great Depression did not happen until nearly two decades after the Federal Reserve System came to be. Socialist thinkers and Keynesian economists seem to believe that Capitalism itself was responsible for the market collapse. An interesting position to hold, considering that the 1929 stock market crash happened 15 years into the Fed’s command & control doctrine. The very same policies which were put into practice as a means to eliminate even the possibility of anything like that occurring can be directly linked to the Crash. They are also responsible for the Great Depression lasting 15 years longer that it should have. America should remember that, as the nation celebrates 100 years of the Federal Reserve System pumping trillions in virtually counterfeit funny money, into the economy.

Kinda makes one think, doesn’t it?

AUDIT THE FED.  DISENFRANCHISE IT.  AND IMPRISON THE CRIMINALS.  IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH?

‘Last Minute Louie’

I’ve nick-named myself ‘Last Minute Louie’.  (Not as good as Guffaw, I know…)

That’s because things I dread, don’t like, cannot afford, etc, I put off until…

I was going to join Procrastinators Anonymous, but I never got around to it!

Usually, this behavior manifests in going to the doctor, doing taxes, stuff like that.

I LIKE Christmas, and I even enjoyed the last-minute fighting in crowds to get a gift for someone.  Until I went on disability and had even less funds!  I am scheduled to get paid the fourth Wednesday of every month, and the week prior is usually pretty spartan.  And tomorrow is both Wednesday AND Christmas.

But, I got paid TODAY!  (OO-RAH!)

So, the holiday spirit took hold and I bought a couple things for important people. And some muffins for breakfast!

So what if next month the bad week lasts a week-and-a-half (or two) instead of one?

It’s Christmas!

Just When You Thought It Was Safe…

Just when you thought it was safe...

Just when you thought it was safe…

BUREAUCRATIZLLA STRIKES, YET AGAIN!

Twice.

First, my private disability insurance.  I have a small stipend in addition to my Social Security disability, which comes from an insurance company policy I purchased when I was employed.  It’s not much, but it IS something!  I had to fight to keep it a couple years back, because they didn’t bother to read their own files. Recently, I received a letter from them stating they had not received copies of my medical records they requested from my primary care physician.  And they threatened cutting off my benefits unless I pushed this issue with the doctor.  Just in time for the holidays!  After much back-and forth, it was determined the doctor HAD sent the records, AND, the insurance company DID receive them.  THE SAME DAY the form letter went out to me!  So (for the moment) all is well with my private insurance.  (I’m reminded of Dave’s Law of Banking – the insurance company corollary – Insurance Companies are not in business to serve you.  They are in business to make money!  The didn’t build the John Hancock Tower by giving it all away.)

Second.  I live in a townhouse.  There are two (covered) spaces assigned for each homeowner.  Everyone else is to park in the uncovered spaces, which are plentiful.  My roomie (the homeowner) occupies both spaces, as is her right.  Traditionally, I park five spaces to the North, in the uncovered area.  No biggee, right?  It should be noted that I parked in this very same space before I lived here, as a frequent visitor, for the past 10 years!  There was never any problem.

NOW the (almighty) HOA (homeowner’s association) has taken it upon itself to ‘cite’ me for being a resident parked in a visitor space!

Seriously?  And they have threatened me with being towed if I continue to park there!

The townhouse HOA here is very poor.  The exterior (their bailiwick) needs paint, maintenance, upkeep. There is a beehive residing outside my bedroom window, making it’s way into the eaves!

But they spend their time harassing tenants and collecting their monthly HOA fees.  And don’t get me started on the rear fencing!

I was ‘cited’ the same day I received the insurance company warning!
