So Much For ‘The Republic of Texas’!

Quizikle pointed us to recent judicial activism political agenda-making in the State of Texas.

I always liked Texas.  Not only do they have many ‘libertarian’ laws, but they were once their own Republic!  It did take them a while to evolve concealed-carry legislation, but they finally did.

And now some nazi judge says THIS:

Texas courts have ruled that because legally owned firearms represent “a threat of physical violence” to police, officers may ignore the 4th Amendment rights of Texas residents by treating ALL legally issued warrants as “No Knock” warrants, even if the issuing judge has made it clear that officers “…must knock on the door and announce their identity and purpose before attempting a forcible entry.

  1. I lived in Texas for several years, and never did understand where it got its reputation as a freedom-friendly – or even gun-friendly – state. Granted that Texas is very large and regional, and there are wide swaths of it that ignore oppressive laws that (used to, anyway) come out of Austin. When I lived there, there were some really terrible gun laws. Which we mostly ignored.

  2. I’ve also been confused by the laws in Texas, although what Joel says about ignoring them is quite true … at least according to some TX friends. 🙂

  4. Texas is Schizophrenic. State capital is Austin, home of Univeristy of Texas, and as liberal as any college town.

  5. We have much the same thing here. Tucson is the home of U of A; Tempe ASU, both ‘liberal’, compared to most of the rest of the State.
