Ninety Miles From Tyranny brings us the story…
How girl ELEVEN grabbed gun and shot dead cougar that was stalking her brother, 13, outside their house (link)
Of course, these kids would have been much safer had they no firearm or safety or shooting instruction or access to firearms. After all, the cougars were here first.
Picking on a poor, defenseless animal like that, how dare they!
It’s for the children…
PS – I took my first shot at age 6. When did you start?
If that photo is anything to go by, that cougar looks like it was starving. No wonder it had resorted to stalking a human.
Cougars are normally very shy and avoid humans.
I believe the (link) article suggested that. The point was gun-controllers would not have made it possible for the children to defend themselves.
I think the article said it was half it’s normal weight.
I know.
I just can’t help hurting for any being that was so clearly suffering.
It’s the Buddhist in me. 🙂
AND, the Buddhist in me recognizes that on a cosmic level, the girl freed the cougar from its suffering, and also prevented it from incurring more karmic debt, which it would have done by attacking the boy.
People are often under the misconception that Buddhism requires non-violence at all times.
As exemplified by the Dalai Lama, “If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.”
I always wanted to meet him, just to say “Hello Dalai!” 🙂
Good kid! Btw, my first shot was on my 6th birthday. 🙂
I wish I’d a date or a picture,but no such luck…
Eight… And good for her!
Indeed!
