Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. R.I.P.

As Broderick Crawford represented the Highway Patrol, and Lee Marvin the M Squad (Homicide), Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. WAS the FBI in the FBI TV Series.

During Hoover’s last years, when we had Cointelpro, Mr. Zimbalist played the G-Man to a T, the ideal J. Edgar only dreamt of.  He was even gifted by the Director with retired FBI Agent credentials!

Efrem_Zimbalist_JrOf course, he was also the head PI @ 77 Sunset Strip, first!

Mr. Zimbalist was 95(!)

We’ll miss you Lewis Erskine and Stu Bailey.  Remember to stay low and keep your powder dry!

  1. Aw. Sad news.
My condolences to the Zimbalist family.

You left out his most important role: he voiced the character of Alfred Pennyworth, the trusted butler/confidante/doctor/father-figure of Bruce Wayne in the superb 1990’s TV show Batman: The Animated Series!

RIP Alfred, I don’t know how Bruce will survive without you.
    :-(

    • Yeah, not a big Batman TV show/cartoon show fan. I didn’t understand camp.
Regardless, he was a fine actor in many roles who lived his Christian life openly.
      Pretty brave in Hollywood!

      • Batman: The Animated Series was NOT camp! It actually was considered an animated version of classic Film Noir of the 1940s and 50s. The stories were very sophisticated and deep with psychological complexities.
Many Batman fans consider TAS as better than any other version of Batman committed to film.
I know you’re not a comics fan, so nothing I say will convince you to watch it, but I sure couldn’t let you think it was camp! :-)

      • Okay, I get it!
I didn’t watch animation (renamed, lest I say cartoons) in the early 90’s.
        Sorry about that…

  3. Lately all these celebrities have been dropping dead, and my reaction every time is “I thought he was already dead!”

Kudos to them for taking the money, quietly retiring, and not trying to tell me what to think.
