“It depends on what the meaning of IS is”
We all remember THAT, right?
(from Brock Townsend)
The religious and political Left loves to play word games and if you understand where the Left is coming from you will realize that they use language as a weapon of war and that the words they spout at us don’t mean what we think they mean. That is part of their offensive against us.
Have any of you noticed with the big fuss over illegal aliens coming into this country by the millions how the terminology has changed. Awhile back the illegal aliens were called just what they were.
Then that was shortened to just “illegals.” A short time after that they became “undocumented workers” and they are now being relabeled as “refugees.” There is a pattern to all this, an evolution of the Leftist agenda, if you will.
Most Americans, except for the fuzzy-headed liberal elite, are not really happy with the influx of illegal aliens into this country. They are just old-fashioned enough to have the idea that people ought to come here legally or stay at home. There are some exceptions, but, in the main, this is where Americans have been at. The idea of handing out freebies and all manner of goodies to someone just because he managed to get into your country illegally doesn’t really appeal to most Americans. The feds soak us enough now without them adding anymore freeloaders to the dole for us to pay for.
At this point, I’d like to differentiate. The Mexican illegals that came here during the 1940s and 50s were a whole different breed than what we have to deal with today. Admittedly they came in illegally, but they were looking for a decent life, which they couldn’t get in Mexico, and they were willing to work and work hard to get it. When they got here and found work, in the main, they taught their kids to be thankful for America and they raised their kids to be good citizens. That’s not what we are dealing with today.
Thanks, Rev. Paul, for the reminder!
Reportedly, Senate Democrats are pushing more gun control, TODAY!
CALL CAPITOL HILL TODAY!

My own Father was not a hugger (of other men). Perhaps it was his generation (b. 1916), or time in history. But for him, a firm handshake said it all. A man’s word is his bond was often something implied in the handshake. Whether the word meant agreement to an implied contract (Yes, I will clean up my room), welcome (Welcome home, son, good to see you!), or even LOVE. (no verbal statement made)
As a result, when it comes to interaction with other men, I welcome a firm, dry handshake – as described numerous times in Ian Fleming’s James Bond novels. Not simply gripping the others hand with the tips of the fingers and thumb, but full engagement – thumb crotch to thumb crotch (or whatever they’re called). Not the (again, intoning Mr. Fleming) slimy, wet, limp grip of the Middle East, which makes a man want to wipe his hand on his coat tails, either.
It has come to pass that scientists have determined over-use of soaps, antibacterial hand cleaners and sanitizers have weakened our respective immune systems. In the effort to ‘keep clean’, we have invited more resistant microbes into the mix.
And now, scientists (I wonder if they are the same ones?) have determined the following:
I remember when I first saw the ‘fist bump’, as part of a ‘cool’ ritual of Black youth. Instead of shaking hands (as the White Devil slavemasters had done) they ‘checked in’, sometimes additionally bumping forearms and even hips!
I thought it was well, stupid then, and my opinion hasn’t changed.
Then, a popular comedian and game-show host began fist-bumping. He said it was because of his aversion to spreading or receiving bacteria. (I wonder if he kisses or has other personal contact with women?)
NOW, such behavior is reaching the mainstream (as shown in the news item, above).
I can see not wanting to shake hands with someone who is openly infectiously diseased. That’s just prudent. But fist-bumping like a hipster is just silly.
I know, I’ll probably die younger because of it.
But, my word remains my bond, and I’ve no other way I can comfortably express that.
And, I like hugging and kissing women, too! 🙂
Must be generational.
In a shame that rivals her Mayor being arrested and convicted for drug use, the District of Columbia is FINALLY forced by judicial edict to comply with the Constitution’s Second Amendment!
I’m reminded of a former friend and lawyer who carried concealed in D.C. in the 80’s, when doing so was a major felony. On one occasion he was forced to clear leather against
an armed assailant a misguided youth who confronted he and some female company near the Jefferson Memorial. The youth dropped his piece of rebar and fled the scene.
I asked Lew what if he had been forced to shoot the
bastard misguided youth, knowing the legal ramifications of having to do so. His reply? He would have taken the first available taxi to the Potomac, thrown the offending gun therein, and fled town!
This was a man not only known in D.C., but he had actually practiced before the Supreme Court. But he knew the then ‘law’ well enough to know he had no Constitutional protection of his right to possess and carry in that locale, much less shoot someone in self-defense.
At least, if he were alive today, he’d now have that carry right.
IF he were a legal resident…
The littlest of the three chee-hooa-hooas, Lola, is now six months old, and has grown from under two pounds four months ago, to a powerhouse of almost SIX pounds! 🙂
She successfully survived her hysterectomy (with a barely visible scar) and now is content terrorizing the large boy dog (DJ), who is probably 15-20 pounds. Yes, he’s a throwback, every genetic trait one doesn’t ask for in a chihuahua. Including massive size.
But, he’s a big, stupid, happy lummox and we love him.
Lola is VERY bright. Try to lure her into a trap (like her kennel for the night) and she’ll fall for the bait. Exactly ONCE. And never again.
She also has an Early Warning System, if she’s penned up and wants out to ‘do her business’. We didn’t train her to do this – she trained us.
I’m usually awake around 0600-0700. Shower, dress, morning stuff and blog. And when the mistress-of-the-manor is absent, Lola bivoacs in MY room.
A Sample Morning
0600 – I Awaken. Kissed by a tiny dog who has been watching me wake up, who then curls up in my armpit and snuggles back to sleep. Then she produces 61,000 btus, forcing me to arise. (Well, that and my impatient bladder!)
0605 – Shower. Lola must be kenneled, lest she join me in the shower. She doesn’t require a bath daily. I do. Besides, I might accidentally step on her!
0615 – Dress. Lola remains kenneled, half or completely asleep, or sometimes therein quietly watching me check my email and blog.
UNLESS, NATURE CALLS HER!
Me, sitting at the computer, tiny kennel on the adjacent bed, containing tiny dog. All is quiet, except occasional keystrokes and the ever-present fan. (This IS AZ, after all!)
Suddenly there is a tiny, tiny bark. Not particularly high-pitched, but very slight in volume, as if distant outside. Usually no response from me. (We designate this DOGCON 3)
Then, a slightly louder bark, perhaps 20 seconds later. This is obviously from inside the house; inside my room. More apparent urgency (DOGCON 2)
(Followed by, if I choose to ignore it…)
DOGCON 1 – a loud, piecing, deafening bark, threatening immediate negative consequences unless she is allowed paper access IMMEDIATELY! This usually also agitates my chronic tinnitus!
My usual response is to get up from my desk, open the kennel, and she jumps up to my chest, sometimes my shoulder – and I carry her to the bathroom, containing the all-important morning paper.
And all is shortly right with the World!
(Until the tiny kitten Belle is heard screaming outside the bedroom door to be included in the blog process (aka walking willy-nilly across the keyboard). Please note, I usually learn from this and ignore her!)
Remember the (infamous) FBI shootout, wherein a number of agents died and the end result was the agency adopting the 10 mm? Which became the .40 S&W (because some agents couldn’t handle 10 mm). Then some specialized units of the FBI adopted the 1911, in .45 ACP?
Well, it’s time for gun/ammo roulette once again, folks!
Because 9mm has been shown to be so effective in the street.
I see this as a combination of federal agencies employing physically smaller persons (some minorities, women) and those folks being unable to handle (or perhaps not being properly trained to handle) firearms in a major caliber.
Or, perhaps it’s just because they bought a boatload of 9mm…

Yes, I understand many officers spend most of their shifts at a desk, or behind the wheel, and it’s more difficult to keep in shape when constantly seated. And of course, the whole police-doughnut meme.
But, there was a time when keeping in condition was part of the job.
Back-in-the-day, there was a time when a patrolman’s sergeant would send out a fat man’s letter to the officer, advising him that he had X number of days to lose weight or be put on desk duty. Or worse.
Now, with police unions, their right to be fat like the rest of us seems to be engraved in stone. Or cellulite.
I remember when I worked for John’s Uniforms back in the 80’s. At that time, there was no Internet, and very few independent uniform and equipment stores. As a result, we sold mail order all over the country. And our business was booming.
We filled many special orders for equipment not available through regular retail channels. I specifically remember an order for a black, basket-weave Sam Browne duty belt (from a department in Georgia I believe). THE WAIST MEASUREMENT NINETY-FOUR INCHES!! (94″) It took a whole steer hide to get one in one piece.
Seriously, how does such an officer pursue a suspect on foot? Or get into a squad car? Or even a restroom stall?
I understand the military (with the exception of The Marines and Spec-Ops guys) have a similar problem. Our tax dollars at work…
Now, I’m overweight and disabled. But I’m not tasked with public safety, either.
Bill Thompson RIP
When my family moved to The Valley of The Sun (on the hottest day of the year in 1956), I was 3 1/2 years old. We had just missed Elvis’ June 9 concert at the Rodeo Grounds – something my then 12 year old sister bemoaned for years.
We had ONE black & white television, with an aerial on the roof. There were FOUR television channels – NBC, CBS, ABC affiliates and the local channel, 5 (then KPHO).
KPHO had lots of schlocky TV of the period – mid-day movies to entertain the long-suffering housewives while they were doing laundry in the sweltering weather, game shows, and ONE show of particular interest to the children, like me.
IT’S WALLACE? was a spin-off of the earlier Gold Dust Charlie local kid’s show, starring Wallace Sneed (Bill Thompson). He did vaudevillian schtick between running cartoons like Popeye and Bugs Bunny. Soon, the college-kid cameraman (Ladimir Kwaitakowski) came to the front of the camera to act with Bill in skits and they performed topical humor for the kids between cartoons.
Eventually IT’S WALLACE became WALLACE & LADMO. And a legendary television show was born.
You can have your BOZOs, UNCLE ALs and SOUPY SALES. WALLACE & LADMO (in it’s various incarnations) was the longest-running children’s variety and cartoon show, from 1954 to 1989.
Bill Thompson WALLACE was the head writer. They mugged for charities, performed live shows on weekends, marched in parades and supported local police and fire departments, and hospitals.
And made us laugh.
In his private life (what little he had), Bill was a Civil War reenactor.
We lost Ladmo in 1994.
And they essentially gave their entire adult lives to entertaining children in Arizona.
You will be missed, Bill. Hope you and Lad are yucking it up and getting the rest you both so richly deserve! 😦
From David Codrea…
From a range operator in a southern state:
After 50 years of existence, we are suddenly having an OSHA inspection of our ranges. We found out recently that the local skeet/trap club is also having an OSHA inspection. Have you heard of this happening else where? With this administration, I am paranoid with anything involving the Federal Government and attacks on civil rights. Please let me know if you have heard of other OSHA inspections of ranges.
Plus see supporting links. The head of OSHA is an anti-gun ideologue a handful of us warned about before he was confirmed by the Senate.
I would not be surprised to see them stepping this kind of harassment up. I’m not aware of anyone raising an alarm on this and do not know how widespread it is — I’ll ask around.
OK, I’m asking.
As an aside, leave it to “Every day is Opposite Day” Prozis to deem us all safer by threatening places where we can train and practice.
If you know of a range that is being subjected to this kind of
enforcement harrassment, please let David know! dcodreaAThotmail.com
