Logan’s Run

Gotcha!

farrahNOT the ubiquitous sci-fi movie classic from the 70’s, with Farah Fawcett.  Sorry.

(Just to show I don’t just go after leftist weasels.  I go after weasels from the right side of the aisle, as well ! – Guffaw)

How did Senate Republicans violate the Logan Act? Well they did that by being war mongers. But more specifically, when 47 members of Congress signed onto a letter that was sent to Iranian officials in an attempt to undermine the peace deal with Iran, they clearly violated the act — and also all committed felonies. According to Cornell University, the act reads:

“Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.”

You should go and read the whole essay.  Republicans do just as many illegal acts as Democrats.  It’s actually kind of surprising, with Democrats controling most of the media, that this isn’t being more trumpeted(!)

Of course, based on so many other actions, it does appear Democrats don’t know the law!

(This doesn’t mean I agree with most actions of the current administration, but even a broken clock is right twice in seven years!  :-))

  1. Actually Kennedy did virtually the same thing in the 1980s…

So I’m throwing the BS flag on them…

  2. Any lawyer would have any action on that tied up for years.
(it would only have to go on until Jan ’17 – unless there’s enough vote fraud for a Dem to get elected again)

When you have “intent” written into the law, you have to prove intent. All the 47 would have to do is say, “Nope! We were just ‘educating’ Iran on our system of govt.” Which is exactly what they have said publicly.
Yes, it’s a weasle defense as was:
“Having one phone would be more convenient”, “I’m not gay, I just have a wide stance”, “My twitter account was hacked” & and the Mother of All Weasle Defenses – “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is.”

I’d be quite happy to see all 47 in jail as long as Queen Nancy is prosecuted too for going to Syria.
(only because Rep. Governors dominate the landscape and would probably appoint Senators more conservative than the ones that got elected)

  4. Nope, they were just stating what the rules are. Informing, as it were.

You’ll never be able to prove that they INTENDED to “influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States,”

Nice try, thanks for playing we have some nice consolation prizes as you exit.

  5. I disagree, the Logan act states “Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States…” But according to the Constitution Article. II, section 2 “He (the President) shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur…” It looks to me like the Senate has the authority of the United States. I would not characterize the actions of these Senators as wise, but I don’t think they are criminal.
