Some time ago, I did a blog post entitled How It REALLY Works.
This is not it.
How coins get sorted inside a machine
The way braces change your teeth
How a trumpet makes that beautiful music
The way pretzels are tied en masse
How peanut butter jars are filled full of creamy goodnessWhat happens when you put a key in a lock
How all that stuff gets into a Pop-Tart
What it looks like when you swallow
How hay bales get wrapped
How water affects light
How wire turns into paper clipsThe life of a dandelion
How flight patterns change throughout the day
And how terrifying the human face is when it’s forming in the womb
I’ve not had a significant other (wife, girlfriend, etc.) for many years. 😦 I’ve been fortunate that the last couple were interested in firearms and I was able to further educate them.
And both carried.
But, I saw a blog post on the Alien Gear Holsters Blog that caught my interest. And reminded me of some others I’ve known with less-than-interested significant others…
With regard to how informed the significant others should be, I’ve two tales of woe:
A student of mine who worked at TMCCC with me had a wife who was vehemently anti-gun. Before we met, he had talked her into allowing him to have a Glock 19 in their home. (unloaded and locked away, of course!) We were able to go out shooting a couple of times, and I was able to markedly improve his speed and groupings. Part of this involved what he referred to as his front sight epiphany! (finally understanding how focusing on the front sight versus the target was the correct method to shoot). He loved shooting, and became enamored with one of my AR-15 rifles.
You can see where this is going, can’t you? 🙂
Another one of my students had become proficient in assembling AR-15s for a local rifle manufacturer (as a side job). He had also begun his own business to do the same.
And my student really wanted an AR-15!
Well, I connected the two of them, and a deal was made. The rifle was made and passed to my student in the TMCCC parking lot (carried under disguise of a blanket). Had we been discovered, both of us would have been undoubtedly fired, due to having a firearm on the premises. (This was a few years ago). But the exchange went fine.
Unfortunately, my student had been dishonest, as he neglected to tell his wife of the purchase!!
I disagreed with him, but, Hell, I wasn’t married to her.
He even kept the rifle bivouacked at a friend’s house (not mine), lest she fine out…
The morals and ethics in a marriage is for another blog post.
Ultimately, he was promoted, and had to move to Chicagoland, get a FOIA card (to get to keep his Glock), and was unable to take the rifle! My understanding is he visits her (the rifle) when he comes out to the Phoenix TMCCC office.
The other story is of another TMCCC student. We were good friends and coworkers, and again, his wife hated firearms. But, he started with a .357 Ruger revolver. Obtained his CCW permit and bought a 1911. And carried often, much to the consternation of his wife. But, he did obtain her permission.
Then, suddenly and unexpectedly, he died. In going through his things, his wife discovered a 12 gauge pump shotgun (of which she was unaware). She gave the revolver, the semiautomatic, and the shotgun to her son-in-law, who was a shooter.
Just to get them out of her house.
She received a call from a local gun store. A gun which he had ordered had just come in, all paid for. She called me, asking what she should do. I suggested as it was all paid for, she should pick it up and give it, too, to her son-in-law.
That she did.
Too bad she just couldn’t stand firearms – she would have had quite a little collection.
I suggested to her, if she ever changed her mind (now living alone, and all) I’d be happy to educate and train her in firearm safety and self-defense.
No call to date.
(FTC – Alien Gear, Glock, Ruger and Coonan gave me nothing! GO AWAY!)

This is sheer BALONEY writ large.– Here’s some nanny government, leftist, multi-culti, envirowhacko agenda shenanigans to be aware of.A few days ago the World Health Organization (WHO) released a report saying bacon, and other meat is bad for you and suggests that eating meat is as dangerous as smoking.– WTF? Really? You wouldn’t shit me now, would you?Of course, this is a UN organization and about half the names on their ‘report’ suggest a religious and/or cultural rejection to consuming pork and beef.– That’s just a coincidence, right?Let’s connect some dots before deciding.– Two weeks ago the Federal Government took bacon off prison menus and said it was because the prisoners “didn’t want bacon.” They then almost immediately reversed that decision because of the outcry from prisoners.– In May 2013 AP reported that WHO said people should eat more insects, that it was good for you, and good for the planet.– Look at the attached photo from 2008. It was taken at a UN Food And Agriculture expo promoting eating insects.Yeah, there is a clear “pattern” here, and it’s not a good one. It is chronic and persistent social engineering from the cultural Marxists who refuse to grasp that some things are simply “none of their damned business.”.Now I’m hungry for some bacon to go with my breakfast eggs (remember when the “experts” said eggs were bad for us, only to be proven wrong?).– Maybe a nice hot-dog for lunch, followed by a steak for dinner. Make that a grilled steak in honor of all the global warmunists that tried to outlaw backyard grills to “save the planet.”
(remembering, this is opinion, not news – Guffaw)
The idea that law-abiding concealed carry permit holders could potentially stop mass shooters is nothing more than a “myth,” the New York Times editorial board proclaimed on Monday.
Citing a study from the anti-gun Violence Policy Center, the editorial board claimed “at least 763” concealed carry permit holders “have been killed in 579 shootings that did not involve self-defense” since 2007.

So let me get this straight…
The INDIVIDUAL should have no power. The ‘Cult of the Individual’ is fallacious. Individual liberty is not the desired result. (Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders)
And all Property is theft. (Karl Marx)
Here in this Constitutionally-mandated Republic with a Bill of (Individual) Rights…
BUT, it is the inherent ‘goodness’ and power of the collective which we should seek.
THE STATE should have all the power. And property.
As they know best what is good for us. (To each, according to their need, yatta, yatta – Karl Marx)
And (eventually) when The State has achieved true equality for all people, it shall wither away.
It’s function is to ‘level the playing field’. (The President)
It takes a Village. (Hillary Clinton)
Now this collective is a group. A committee.
Made up of INDIVIDUALS.
How exactly does THAT work?
And what have we learned regarding committees?
Or perhaps I should say Comintern?
♫…nowhere to hide…♫
Who posed (in part) this idea…
To me, the US – and most of the supposedly free West – increasingly looks like a truck being systematically filled with Semtex.
But it’s easy to counter cries of alarm with the fact that the truck is stable – because it’s true: you can hurl more boxes into the back without any real danger. Absent the right detonator, it is no more dangerous than a truckload of mayonnaise.
But add the right detonator and you’re just one click away from complete devastation.
We can see how fragile the U.S. is now by considering just four tendencies.
The Four Tendencies
There used to be a time (in my mind, anyway) that this constitutional republic strove to be the best. The best physically, academically, militarily. The best as a shining example to the rest of the World of individual liberty, rights and responsibilities.
A truly Norman Rockwell Nation.
We fed the rest of the World. EVERYONE relied on AND TRUSTED, the Dollar! People didn’t ‘just take a pill’ for every perceived ailment. And, while differing dogmatically, we strove to treat others as we ourselves wished to be treated.
The times, they are a changin’.
(I just flashed on Peter Boyle as The Monster, in a tux, tap-dancing in Young Frankenstein – sorry!)
This came my way, courtesy of Doc in Yuma, a kind and generous friend and reader of this humble blog…
On August 04, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with minorities in Russia:
“In Russia, live like Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should respect the Russian laws. If they prefer Sharia Law, and live the life of Muslim’s then we advise them to go to those places where that’s the state law.
Russia does not need Muslim minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no matter how loud they yell ‘discrimination’.
We will not tolerate disrespect of our Russian culture. We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France, if we are to survive as a nation. The muslims are taking over those countries and they will not take over Russia.
The Russian customs and traditions are not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of Sharia Law and Muslims. When this honorable legislative body thinks of creating new laws, it should have in mind the Russian national interest first, observing that the Muslims Minorities Are Not Russians.”
The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five minute standing ovation.
If you keep this to yourself, you are part of the problem! SEND THIS ON!
It is a sad day when a (former) Communist leader (now an oligarch) makes more sense than our own elected leaders !!!!
I know it’s politically incorrect, but try substituting Americans for Russians in the above, and illegal aliens for Muslims.
It’s fine to remember and honor one’s ethnic and religious traditions upon arriving here, but remember, this is The United States.
E Pluribus Unum
(Word from a loyal commenter is Putin DID NOT say this! It does sound like him, though…) 😆
As my dear, departed Father used to intone, “I used to be young and foolish – I’m not young anymore!”
When I was younger, I supported The
War Police Action in Vietnam. The rationale seemed simple. Our allies (the South Vietnamese) were under attack by the (Soviet Russian and Red Chinese communist supported) North Vietnamese.
It seemed to be a way to make The Cold War hot, without actually fighting Russia and China directly.
And we must not only defend out allies, but oppose communism wherever it rears it ugly head.
This was similar to the Korean
War Police Action Conflict a few years earlier.
(And we know how well THAT worked out!)
And I was prepared to voluntarily go and fight for my Country.
Except, with a fused hip, the military changed my draft status to IV-F. And I sat on the sidelines.
And we saw how well Vietnam worked out…
Since that time, there was Lebanon, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Grenada, Panama, the Balkans, then Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan (in part).
And there was always a rationale proposed by the government regarding why we needed to go to war. You may agree with some. You may disagree with some.
But, as I age, I am beginning to question governmental motives more.
YES, I do believe it was appropriate for us to fight the Nazis and the Japanese Empire in WWII. And I am still an anti-communist.
Vietnam, Germany, Italy and Japan are now trade partners.
And Red China rules our financial future. Whether we like it or not.
War for petroleum? Or to stop WsMD? That debate will probably continue.
We should defend our national interests. But, if we are being played by government (or corporate interests) to leap to that defense…(?)
The military-industrial complex President Eisenhower warned us about does exist. The question is how much of government is enmeshed in it?
Here richly, with ridiculous display,
The Politician’s corpse was laid away.
While all of his acquaintances sneered and slanged, I wept:
For I had longed to see him hanged.
War is a Racket by Smedley Butler is a famous speech denouncing the military industrial complex. This speech by two-time Congressional Medal of Honor recipient exposes war profits that benefit few at the expense of many. Throughout his distinguished career in the Marines, Smedley Darlington Butler demonstrated that true patriotism does not mean blind allegiance to government policies with which one does not agree. To Hell with war.*********
Smedley Darlington Butler (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940), nicknamed ” The Fighting Quaker “and ” Old Gimlet Eye “, was a Major General in the U.S. Marine Corps and, at the time of his death, the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.
During his 34 years of Marine Corps service, Butler was awarded numerous medals for hero ism including the Marine Corps Brevet Medal (the highest Marine medal at its time for officers), and subsequently the Medal of Honor twice. Notably, he is one of only 19 people to be twice awarded the Medal of Honor, and one of only three to be awarded a Marine Corps Brevet Medal and a Medal of Honor, and the only person to be awarded a Marine Corps Brevet Medal and a Medal of Honor for two different actions.
In addition to his military career, Smedley Butler was noted for his outspoken anti- interventionistviews, and his book War is a Racket. His book was one of the first works describing the workings ofthe military-industrial complex and after retiring from service, he became a popular speaker at meetings organized by veterans, pacifists and church groups in the 1930s.
(Knowing that most food stamp benefit recipients are ordinary folk just trying to eke out an life, and that an individual example is not prima facie evidence, I present to you this story – with a kicker! – Guffaw)
BREAKING: Media Leaves Out Immigrant Status Of $3.6M Food Stamp Fraudster
A Ghanaian immigrant to the U.S. pled guilty to one of the largest food stamp frauds ever but the media covered up her immigrant status, describing her only as a “Worcester woman.”
Vida Ofori Causey cheated the SNAP program out of millions between 2000 to 2014, according to documents filed with the Justice Department. Here‘s how the Worcester local press described how she committed the fraud.
From April 2010 to October 2014, Ms. Causey conspired with others to commit SNAP fraud by purchasing SNAP benefits rather than exchanging them for food. Ms. Causey purchased the benefits at a discounted value of approximately 50 cents for every SNAP dollar. That resulted in Ms. Causey having the federal government electronically deposit into a bank account she controlled the full face value of the SNAP benefits.
The government said Ms. Causey and her co-conspirators accepted Electronic Benefit Cards from SNAP recipients wishing to exchange them for cash. They subsequently passed those EBT cards through a point-of-sale terminal for the full value of the SNAP benefits.
Though Causey’s massive fraud was noted none of the media reports mentioned her immigrant status.
She was more than forthcoming about it in an interview in 2007 that described her as a Ghananian native.
She attended Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana from 1991-1994, according to her LinkedIn page. She enrolled in Quinsigamond Community College between 2003-2005 in Worcester where she studied electronics.
In 2011 her community college bragged about her and called her a “success story.”
Yep, the media (sorry, Biff!) wanted to present us with the whole story – but didn’t.

‘Did some research’? Seriously?
