A New Class Of Gentle, Bubble-Wrapped Snowflake!

from Wirecutter:

Yeah, let’s not hurt their feelings

An official with the Department of Justice said the agency will no longer call people “felons” or “convicts” after they are released from prison because it is too hard on them emotionally.

Assistant Attorney General Karol Mason wrote a piece in The Washington Post Wednesday saying “many of the formerly incarcerated men, women, and young people I talk with say that no punishment is harsher than being permanently branded a ‘felon’ or ‘offender.’”

Perhaps they should petition the courts for a ‘safe space’?

NEXT, we’ll be allowing them to vote and own firearms – OH!  Wait-a-minute…

  1. no punishment is harsher than being permanently branded a ‘felon’ or ‘offender.’”

How about the women who have been attacked in their homes?
Not feeling safe at all in your own house is a pretty severe sentence.
How about the people who lived through violence but feel the effects every time they get out of bed in the morning?
I bet they wish it didn’t hurt every day till they die.
If felons need to do something about the label, don’t piss and moan about your problems, give voice to it!
Tell everyone you can not to make the same stupid choices you made!! It’s pretty easy in the digital age to reach thousands in seconds.

A friend of mine, who I love like a brother, will be released from AZ State Prison in a couple of years.
(was driving impaired and hit someone, almost killing them)
He is and will always be a felon….and he OWNS IT. He doesn’t shy away from the label and desperately wants to tell others that stupid hurts, has consequences and leaves a black stain on your soul.

  2. And they don’t want employers to do background checks, they’re demeaning… Sigh…
