In An 8-0 Decision…

(from Fox News)

The United States Supreme Court…

In win for Asian-American rock band the Slants, and possible boost for the Washington Redskins, Supreme Court rules that the government can’t refuse to register trademarks that are considered offensive.

More on this:

AGAIN, free speech is not about that with which we agree!

(Just when you thought the Supreme Court was worthless…)

  1. They’re not completely useless. But I wouldn’t want to bet my life on ’em.

  2. Huh. I remember hearing about this case, and being a bit perplexed by it. Back in the 1970s, there was an all-girl punk band called the Slits, and there was never any controversy over their name (and they were quite well known, at least in the music community).

In fact, when I heard about the Slants, I figured their name was sort of a playful homage to the Slits.

    • Well, I’d never heard of them. But I’m not ‘in the loop’. Saying ‘in the loop’
      proves that! 🙂
Back in the 70’s, the widespread Internet had yet to evolve (Darpanet since 1969?)
      Less of a reactive audience(?)
