Anti-Libertarian Ideologies On The March: The Existential Threat To Liberty

(From Libertarianism.org)

Tom Palmer lectures on modern threats to liberalism and individualism, exploring the philosophical roots of these threats and explaining the danger they pose. He touches on the theocratic threat of Islamism and the leftist threat of identity politics, but the bulk of the discussion focuses on the recent re-emergence of the type of nationalist, racist collectivism previously exhibited by fascists in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s.

The slides associated with Palmer’s lecture are posted on SlidesLive.

I’m a ‘conservative’ libertarian.  I disagree with the National (Libertarian) Party on a number of points, mostly regarding open borders.

But, I still believe all liberty-loving folks need to band together, regardless of minor sticking points, to battle the evils of Statism.

Lest we lose it all over infighting!

New York, New York – It’s A Heckava Town!

(from Wirecutter)

To Serve…..

(NEWSER) – A civilian review panel tasked with investigating complaints against New York City cops has spotted a trend: NYPD officers knocking cellphones and other video recording devices out of the hands of concerned citizens. In a three-year analysis of complaints against city officers starting in 2014, the Civilian Complaint Review Board discovered 257 complaints that contained 346 allegations of officer interference with civilian recordings of police actions, LawNewz reports, citing a CCRB report. In addition to knocking devices out of civilians’ hands, those acts of interference included verbal directions to stop recording, obstructing sightlines, and threatening to arrest or detain civilians for recording police actions. All told, 46% of the complaints alleged physical interference.

Let’s see…

It’s New York, so I cannot carry a weapon.

And the police can do as they please and interfere with lawful recording in public of questionable events.

Hardly the NYC police department as portrayed in Tom Selleck’s TV series Blue Bloods!

(Of course, Selleck is NOT the real police commissioner of NYC, either!)

Reminiscent of watching Air Force One, and seeing a President fight terrorists.  Then leaving the theater feeling great, then remembering that the real President (at the time) was Bill Clinton!

The YANKEE And COWBOY War

Back in the 70’s there was a book about political conspiracies released call The Yankee and Cowboy War.

Authored by a leftist, anti-war guy, he postulated that (then) modern politics in the U.S. was derived from the ‘battles’ between Eastern (U.S.) influences and Western influences.  Kennedy versus Reagan, if you will.

Of course, his thesis was destroyed by Bushes from Kennebunkport being the same as those from Texas!

But much of the country still thinks in these generic terms.  Yankee (Wall Street) bad versus Texas (big oil) bad.

And Southerners/Westerners being more freedom-loving than New Yorkers remains a meme.

In my sense of bigotry.

But, now comes THIS…

You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.

That’s where police can seize your property and cash without first proving you committed a crime; without a warrant and without arresting you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.
Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.
It’s called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state police began using 16 of them last month.
Here’s how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.
“We’re gonna look for different factors in the way that you’re acting,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said. “We’re gonna look for if there’s a difference in your story. If there’s someway that we can prove that you’re falsifying information to us about your business.”
Troopers insist this isn’t just about seizing cash.

Soon (I’m certain) to be coming to a State near you!  “…without a warrant and without arresting you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.”

SOMEHOW.  Yeah, there’s your probable cause and due process.

Restroom Wars, Part Number Two

bathroom-sign-jpgWhen I ran across this article on Facebook, I truly thought it must be either dizinformazia, or an article culled from The Onion.

After a little side research, I determined this to be the genuine article.  By a genuine LGBT activist.  Who is quite obviously NOT a libertarian!

Famous LGBT Activist Reveals The Scary, Real Goal Of The Bathroom Battle (And It’s Not Bathrooms…It’s Way Worse)

What you may have been suspecting has been confirmed. LGBT activists’ end goal is not ruling over the bathroom. It’s obliterating the family. Riki Wilchins, a famous transsexual who recently wrote a piece in the gay publication The Advocate, revealed that many conservatives and even LGBT activists are missing the forest for the trees.

Titled,“We’ll Win the Bathroom Battle When the Binary Burns,” Wilchins says the real goal is to kill the notion of male and female altogether. The “binary” refers to gender distinction, and getting rid of the “heterobinary structure” is the goal. Wilchins writes that the fact that we are arguing over male and female facilities is proof that we still have far to go–that there should be no gender distinctions in general.

In fact, Wilchins points to an emerging group of people who don’t want to affiliate as any gender. Life Site News explains, “’Non-binary’ people don’t identify as male or female and they often want to be referred to as ‘they’ or ‘hir’ or ‘zer.’  So the fact that there are even intimate facilities that reflect the “binary” truth about gender should change, Wilchins wrote.”

If you are confused, you are not alone. But beneath all of the titles and non-titles, the insidious plan is the destruction of the family, reveals Stella Morabito, senior contributor to The Federalist.

“What we are really talking about is the abolition of sex. And it is sex that the trans project is serving to abolish legally, under the guise of something called ‘the gender binary.’  Its endgame is a society in which everyone is legally de-sexed.  No longer legally male or female.  And once you basically redefine humanity as sexless you end up with a de-humanized society in which there can be no legal ‘mother’ or ‘father’ or ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ or ‘husband’ or ‘wife’ without permission from the State.  Government documents are already erasing the terms.  In such a society, the most intimate human relationships take a hit. The family ends up abolished.”

Morabito hits home the point: “Sex distinctions are the germ of all human relationships. Abolishing them legally basically abolishes family autonomy.  And this is an act of violence against children because it would serve at some point to separate them from their origins. Every child’s first transcendental question is ‘Where did I come from?’  If the law will not allow the child to see his own origins and wholeness in the faces of a mother and a father, it destabilizes the child’s sense of self.  It creates personal dysfunction in children and basically ends up spreading more dysfunction and even dystopia in society.”

This is scary. If Morabito and other cultural watch-dogs are right, the bathroom battle is far more serious than many think. We need to really pray and ask God for help–before it’s too late and our future generations end up really damaged. Do you agree? (Faith Family America)

SO.  Either Ms. Wilchins is a dystopian uber-Statist of the first order, or is a deepest cover agent promoting such nonsense reductio ad absurdum*!

I truly hope it is the second choice offered.

If this is indeed the true ultimate agenda, it goes way beyond men ‘self-identifying’ as female to visit women’s rooms and/or taking surreptitious photos of women and girls, or worse!

But, as The President is taking a hard line on this issue, ‘blackmailing’ the States to conform to this agenda in their schools, or lose federal funding(!), and many believe him to be a variety of Marxist…

Q.E.D.

*Reductio ad absurdum
Reductio ad absurdum, also known as argumentum ad absurdum, is a common form of argument which seeks to demonstrate that a statement is true by showing that a false, untenable, or absurd result follows from its denial, or in turn to demonstrate that a statement is false by showing that a false, untenable, or absurd result follows from its acceptance.  (Wikipedia)

What To Do In A Terrorist Attack

(courtesy of Borepatch)

Michael Yon has advice (via Isegoria):

We are at war.
We must retrain our minds that we are not sheep to be slaughtered.
First option — unless you are law enforcement or a Soldier — is to escape. Second option is to hide. Final option, kill that son of a bitch. Bum-rush him.
Take his rifle and shoot him in the head.
He might be wearing a vest — when you are very close shoot his head twice and keep moving. If the rifle is out of ammo, kill him with the rifle butt or something else. Smash with all of your strength.
No time for hogtying him. There might be other terrorists and there is no time for pleasantries. Just kill him and keep your weapon pointed at potential enemies. Be very careful not to cause innocent casualties. Can be hard to do.
Ugly advice for an ugly age.
Basic…to the point…nothing fancy.
And yes, ugly.
I don’t understand the mindset of people who volunteer to be sheep – either they figure they will lose (or deserve to), and seem to operate on that premise.
Or that they are incapable of self-defense violence.  Unable to make an effort to save their own skin, or the skins of their loved ones.
REMEMBER – WE ARE THE FIRST RESPONDERS – IF WE CHOOSE TO RESPOND!
I’m old.  Slow.  Arthritic.  Physically disabled.
I’m in chronic pain.
BUT I WANT TO LIVE!

Food Stamps, Etc.

Doc in Yuma (a regular, loyal reader and sometime contributor) sent me this regarding control of Food Stamps.

Sent to him under the title “Compassionate Conservatism”.

Put me in charge…

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for
Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans,
blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away.  If you want
steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women
Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations.  Then, we’ll test
recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and
piercings.  If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get
tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing.  Ever live in a military barracks?
You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair.  Your
“home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be
inventoried.  If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your
own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or
you will report to a “government” job.  It may be cleaning the roadways of
trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.  We
will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the “common good..”
Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of
the above is voluntary.  If you want our money, accept our rules.  Before
you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,”
consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for
doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least
attempt to make them learn from their bad choices.  The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND – While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE!  Yes that
is correct.  For you to vote would be a conflict of interest.  You will
voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t
welfare check.  If you want to vote, then get a job.
Alfred W. Evans, Gatesville , TX
First of all, I’m a (conservative) libertarian (small L).  Voluntarism, coupled with non-nanny-statism would be the order of the day.   With that in mind, some of the controls suggested are ones with which I disagree.  For example…
“Food” choices.  If an EBT (food stamp) recipient wants T-bone steak or Twinkies to eat – I don’t care!  Only so many funds are allocated each month, and buying steak will ‘eat up’ the funds rather quickly.
It would be nice if the purchase of TP, laundry soap and similar household items were included on the ‘approved’ list, though.
Forced birth control is repugnant to me.  And recreational drugs and body disfigurement are not on the food stamp list.  Not my problem.
The whole ‘government housing’ thing is also repugnant.  If someone wants to live in a hovel or cannot afford maintenance, it is no concern of mine.  As long as it doesn’t affect the public health and safety.   Funny how a ‘conservative’ cries for such control, but screams about the prospect of FEMA camps…
I do like the idea of (voluntary) government service to help maintain the infrastructure.  I’m not certain it should be tied to receipt of food stamps, however.
“While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you can no longer VOTE!  For you to vote would be a conflict of interest.”
WOW – what a concept!
Of course, while a compassionate State maintains some kind of a ‘safety net’ for the truly needy, I’m a little unclear how this can be administered efficiently, fairly and at a reasonable cost.
After all, it IS government of which we speak!

Freedom Of Speech

(aka The War Between The Blacks and The Whites, Part III)

As a grimly relevant adjunct to my previous post about crime, cops and communities, the voices calling for racially-based violence (especially against police) got louder last weekend (a couple weeks ago).

Members of the #FYF911 or #F**YoFlag and #BlackLivesMatter movements called for the lynching and hanging of white people and cops. They encouraged others on a radio show Tuesday night to “turn the tide” and kill white people and cops to send a message about the killing of black people in America.

One of the F**YoFlag organizers is called “Sunshine.” She has a radio blog show hosted from Texas called, “Sunshine’s F***ing Opinion Radio Show.”

During the show, callers clearly call for “lynching” and “killing” of white people.

h/t Brock Townsend

The President is being largely silent in these matters.  Until a Black kid gets shot by a cop – then he sends the A.G. in to support the protesters.
I wonder if he sees himself as a latter-day Robert Mugabe, tearing down the culture to replace it with a do-nothing, welfare-receiving, inflationary economy.  In other words, changing The United States to a Zimbabwe State?

Now Which Amendment Is That, Again?

Or AMENDMENTS…

A woman had her guns taken from her because her husband had a psychiatric issue. She’s suing:

The city took her 12 guns away in 2013. KNTV reports that she went to federal court recently to get them back. She contends in her lawsuit, which also seeks damages and an injunction to prevent future seizures, that she has a right to have guns in her home, despite her husbands mental health issue.

In California, of course…

All Government Eventually Is FORCE

From The Rifleman Savant:

See, this is where you lose me.

So lately I’ve started to see this image pop up in “friendly” circles:

This is actually a bit infuriating.

It’s not that the message is wrong, per se;  I’ve got no argument that the giant “rainbow” mob (which has co-opted the demographic of people who are, you know, actually gay just like little-L libertarians get regularly co-opted by various ne’er-do-wells who have despoiled their own name and need new legitimacy) will now prove to be mostenthusiastic about pressing their newfound political advantage against…well, their political opponents.  And we all know that in politics the penalty is always death.

What’s annoying is that

  • “Bake My Damned Cake” might as well be “Snitch On Your Neighbor”, or “If You See Something, Say Something”, or “Support Your Local Police”, or “Drugs are bad, mmmkay?” or “Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately”, or “Put Back The Raw Milk, Ya Weird-Hat Beardo”, or “Stop Resisting”, or “Just Admit You’re A Racist Already, Honky”, or “Do You Deny Climate Change?”, or “Say It!  Taxes Are Voluntary”, or “Support The Establishment’s Next War”, or “Vote, peasant“, or … okay, you get the idea.  (You do get the idea, right?)
  • The rainbow symbol might as well be the symbol for DHS, NSA, FBI, IRS, ATF, Congress, SYLP, SPLC, CDC, the UN, the Presidential Seal, Everytown, Sandy Hook Promise, EPA, … again, you get the idea.
  • The symbol of the Christian cross might as well be a symbol for gun owners, or cash users, or privacy wonks, or Reds, or Jews, or Blacks, or Muslims, or Freedomistas, or homeschoolers, or  potheads, or hippies, or motorheads, or rednecks, or …
Pick one from each column and the functional dynamic is exactly the same, despite any quantity of sound and fury to the contrary.
See, the concept behind the image itself is extremely powerful–if you stand back far enough to see it for what it is.  “Bake My Damned Cake”,et al, is simply political force, however it may be determined by whatever mob has power at the moment.  The rainbow, et al, is simply the political mob, legitimized by whatever diabolical means the system can snow enough people over with.  And of course, the cross, et al, is simply you and me–the Mundanes, the peasantry, everyone.  As George Carlin so aptly put it, “it’s like a great big club…and you ain’t in it.”  A less savory character called it “Who does what to whom.”
Yes, the “rainbow mob” is currently whooping it up and generally carrying on like petulant children who have got their way and are milking it for all it’s worth.  I’m not arguing that.  But it is a bit discouraging to see otherwise thoughtful people making it SO DAMN EASY to retort with the complaint that all they care about is keeping the gays away.  And thus enabling millions to simply ignore whatever else they may have to say.
It’s not about that, right?  Right?   Okay, so Jeez, people, by all means act like it.
(While I loathe quoting murdering despots) “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun.”  –  Mao Tse Tung
Kevin Wilmeth is correct, of course.  Anyone who holds power currently can run the agenda – Democrats, Republicans, Socialists, Communists, The Church, Royal Families, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.  (Don’t forget How It REALLY Works!)
Lets not be so short-sighted as to focus on the power du jour

Regarding Indiana’s’, Arkansas’ New Law(s)…

And Texas’ old one…

AND a federal one.

(and rather libertarian principles…)

I believe contracts between people (and corporations) should be voluntary in nature.

If your religion (or principles, or personal beliefs, or bigotry) coerce/convince you to not do business with someone because of their beliefs, or creed, or disability, or gender, or age, or sexual preference, et al, then, by all means, DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

(AHEM, however)

Be prepared to reap the attention of the Federal government.

Federal law already prohibits denial of goods or services due to a customer’s race, color, age, disability, or gender.  (Thank you President CLINTON!)  Why do States feel the need to rubber-stamp the federal law?

HOWEVER, I also believe, as they do in Texas, that businesses have to right to refuse service.  Period.  No explanation is necessary or required.

And THE MARKETPLACE will make the ultimate decision!

If a business excludes certain persons from engaging in contracts with them, then they will make less money.

More open businesses will prosper more.

Because there are more capitalists then there are bigots.

I’m certain there are more businesses ready, willing and able to do business with any customers brought to them by anyone with a wallet.

In Indiana, Arkansas, and Texas!

Imagine a world where government stays out of such things?

Why would I want to do business with someone who wishes to not do business with me?  Just to force my agenda on THEM?

A pizza place in Indiana closed because of protests by persons who didn’t like their refusal to cater a gay wedding.  Here’s a hint – go elsewhere!

And the pizza place received unsolicited contributions from  freedom-loving folks (to the tune of over $450,000!)
