The Simple Sabotage Manual

The Art of Manliness strikes again!

The Simple Sabotage Manual

In 1944, the Allied troops were gaining ground on the battlefields of WWII, but still faced opposition from the Axis powers. The weaker that enemy targets could be made, the easier and faster the military’s job would be in wresting Europe back from its occupying forces. The U.S. government thus began a strategy to undermine Axis-aligned governments not only from without, but also from within.

The Office of Strategic Services (O.S.S.), a precursor to the modern C.I.A., created an initially classified booklet laying out the art of “simple sabotage” — which, “more than malicious mischief . . . should always consist of acts whose results will be detrimental to the materials and manpower of the enemy.”

The Simple Sabotage Field Manual taught O.S.S. agents not only how to recruit potential saboteurs from among those who were antagonistic towards their occupiers and sympathetic to the Allied cause, but listed specific tactics average citizens in various lines of work could employ to destabilize their government and help hasten its demise. The booklet was declassified by the director of the O.S.S., William J. Donovan, with the aim of surreptitiously distributing its information by way of leaflets, radio broadcasts, or the direct teaching of European citizens who U.S. agents had ascertained could be trusted.

Though the suggestions presented in the Simple Sabotage Field Manual were designed to soften the underbelly of the enemy by gumming up the works of factories, offices, and infrastructure, what’s hilariously surprising is how many of them, especially regarding white collar work, continue to be inadvertently (we think?) practiced today.

When you read tips to employees like “refer all matters to committees, for ‘further study and consideration,’” and “Contrive as many interruptions to your work as you can,” as well as instructions to managers to “Hold conferences when there is more critical work to be done,” one realizes the ways in which, in the present day, employees sabotage their companies, managers sabotage their teams, and workers sabotage their own success — not for any purposeful mission, but simply out of laziness, carelessness, and a lack of motivation and morale.

Further, the general injunction to “Act stupid,” uncomfortably invokes the fact that modern citizens may be sabotaging the strength of a country they actually support.

The Simple Sabotage Field Manual thus cannot only be used as a handbook on guerrilla resistance, should you find yourself living under a tyrannical occupying government, but also a guide on how to “reverse engineer” success in peacetime pursuits — how to recognize and address would-be saboteurs in the cubicle next door (or in the mirror).

Either way, it’s a fascinating read. Below we’ve re-published a condensed version of the booklet, collecting the tips that are the most interesting, and which still remain relevant today. (Numbering/formatting was changed in places by the necessity of the condensing process.) The entire booklet can be found here.

Fight the power, and don’t forget to leave home without a bag of moths.

(Now, I’m not suggesting anyone do anything criminal, illegal or untoward.  I’m

simply offering this as an historic oddity.)

(from Brock Townsend)

While I am skeptical of where this will lead, it is noteworthy to see that this report comes from NBC and more specifically Chuck Todd.  In a report earlier this week, NBC reported that there were allegations that while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, the quashed investigations into a prostitution and pedophile ring that was operating inside the department in order to avoid scandal and protect high-ranking employees and an ambassador.

“Serious allegations concerning the State Department,” the NBC anchor said.  “According to internal State Department memos the agency might have called off or intervened into investigations into possibly illegal, inappropriate behavior within its ranks allegedly to protect jobs and avoid scandals.

“This concerns a time when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.”

There have been rumors for years regarding the misdeed crimes involving the Clintons, but only in the past couple have I seen allegations of them concerning pedophilia, specifically involving Bill and Hillary’s covering up of the same.
Nice a blip made the mainstream media.
Finally.
(I delayed reposting this Brock Townsend for a few weeks, in part to see whether or not the MSM would run with it, and where it would lead.

Why Gun Control Doesn’t Work – An Example

(from Joel in part)

Our new law didn’t work as advertised! So we need more laws.

Here’s an actual headline I did not make up…

SAFE Act seems to fail at keeping guns from criminals

You guys remember the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013, right? It was going to make New Yorkers safe from scary-looking rifles and standard-capacity magazines, as well as restricting ammo sales and forcing shrinks to snitch on their patients. Thus, you know, ushering in the glorious millennium or some thing, I dunno.

And here’s a total shock: In addition to turning virtually every New York gun owner into a felonious scofflaw, it doesn’t do any of the things promised! Wow. It’s just so out of the blue. Who saw that coming?

Undismayed, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman attacks the problem head-on with strawmen and buzzwords blazing:

“Target on Trafficking: Analysis of New York Gun Crimes” found that 74 percent of guns used in a crime recovered in New York came from outside this state.Of these, 70 percent originated “in just six states with weak gun laws — the states along I-95 that make up the Iron Pipeline,” says an online presentation on the report.

Yes, of course it’s not the fault of New York’s well-meaning totalitarians. They wrote a perfect nightmare of a law, which would have worked perfectly if not for all those other state lawmakers with all those weak gun laws! Yeah!

“The Iron Pipeline.” I love it. I hope whichever writer came up with that one got paid a generous bonus. Then had a piano fall on his head.

Surprising to me, though, is that the article writer actually dares point out that it ain’t necessarily so…

However, the report’s data shows that the percentage of crime guns from out of state remained remarkably even before and after New York’s SAFE Act was passed in 2013. From 2010 to 2015, it only fluctuated between 73 and 75 percent. The number of recovered crime guns went down, along with the violent crime rate throughout the Northeast, but the out-of-state percentage stayed the same.

[B]y Mr. Schneiderman’s measure, it hasn’t worked. If the out-of-state gun percentage had spiked since the new restrictions took effect, that might indicate criminals were being foiled here and turning more often to other states, but that doesn’t seem to have happened.

Careful there, kid. Speaking truth to power works best from a respectful distance.

TODAY IN HISTORY

(from Refdesk)

The Apalachin Meeting (1957)

The Apalachin Meeting was a summit of some 100 Mafiosi from the US, Canada, and Italy that was raided after their fancy cars and out-of-state license plates aroused the suspicions of law enforcement agents in Apalachin, New York. Fifty-eight Mafiosi, including bosses Carlo Gambino and Vito Genovese, were detained.

Perhaps the most significant consequence of the raid was that it confirmed the American Mafia’s existence(…)

Of course, we’ve been told with the arrest and conviction of John Gotti, the Mafia died.  Now we just have to worry about foreign cartels, yadda, yadda…

YEAH.     RIGHT.

GEE…

About these “protests”…

I wonder if it’s just Soros or SEIU (famous for earlier OWS busings) or LaRaza?  Or a coordinated effort by community organizers (outside agitators) in all these groups?

I was told by a liberal friend that it didn’t happen against Obama, because folks think Trump is more dangerous (!?)  Different strokes, I guess.  I thought Obama was/is plenty dangerous…

As for me, there have been Presidents and policies with whom/which I disagreed over the past 40 years.  But, I couldn’t leave school – I’d have been suspended.  And work?  Fired.

Besides, I had and needed to keep my job!  (I’m guess this IS a job for many of these folks!)

Figures. Anti-Trump Protesters Were Bussed in to Austin #FakeProtests

bus-protests-3

Paid fake protesters were bused in to the anti-Trump protests in Austin, Texas.

They must have spent a lot of Soros money on this operation.

There was a whole string of buses.

Everything they do is fake or paid for.

and…
mexican-protesters
‘Students’, aka Lenin’s useful idiots.
Funny how they sport MEXICAN flags and professionally-made signs…
The Internet says the epicenter of the protest activity is OREGON! (where Austin, Berkeley, Tucson, SF et al should relocate!)
Who knew?
At least this gives folks something to do.
(BTW – I’m all for protest – it’s a fine American tradition.  Criminal damage, arson, rioting, and assault are crimes, not protest.)
(AND WHILE WE’RE ON THE SUBJECT)
There’s  ‘movement’ to force the Electoral College to change their vote to coincide with the popular vote! (I wonder if such a movement would exist if the result had been reversed?), AND, a movement to amend the Constitution to make the Presidential Election by popular vote!!
Didn’t any of these folks take Eighth Grade Civics?
For those who missed it, The United States is a REPUBLIC, NOT a democracy (aka majority/mob rule).  Please see the map below:

Do you REALLY want only the regions in blue deciding who becomes President?  THIS is why the Electoral College was created.  The Founding Fathers were smart cookies – thinking of fly-over States before the airplane was even invented!
Class dismissed.

How To Spot A Concealed Handgun

The Art of Manliness (a blog to which I sometimes refer) not only addresses etiquette, style and proper behavior, but also delves into ‘manly’ things such as camping, hunting, shooting, unarmed combat and other esoterica.  (Of course, many of these subjects may be of interest to women, as well!) 🙂

A recent guest post was entitled as above.  I’m posting it below, in it’s entirety, not just to entertain and inform, but to show those who do carry behaviors and appearances which may bring to them unwarranted attention.

Enjoy!

How to Spot a Concealed Handgun

The following is an excerpt from 100 Deadly Skills: Survival Edition — The SEAL Operative’s Guide to Surviving in the Wild and Being Prepared for Any Disaster. A follow-up to Clint’s first bestseller — 100 Deadly Skills: The SEAL Operative’s Guide to Eluding Pursuers, Evading Capture, and Surviving Any Dangerous Situation — this new survival edition offers primers on any survival situation imaginable, from wilderness scenarios, to terrorism and kidnappings, to natural disasters.

Individuals who carry a handgun professionally are well attuned to the range of mannerisms that can indicate the presence of a concealed weapon within their vicinity. Civilians, too, can learn to familiarize themselves with these signs and signals. When combined with suspicious behavior, the suspected presence of a concealed weapon should put bystanders on high alert.

Body Language: People carrying handguns tend to subconsciously telegraph the location of the weapon via their body language. They may reflexively palpate the gun to make sure the weapon is still safely in its holster, subtly re-position the weapon prior to sitting or standing, or shift their weight away from nearby bystanders to avoid accidental contact with or theft of the weapon.

Asymmetry: Another telltale sign is asymmetry in clothing. Guns are heavy and bulky, and thus will betray signs of their presence to anyone who’s paying attention. An outside-the-waistband holster may cause a visible midline bulge, while an ankle holster may cause a bulge or tightening of the fabric at the lower leg. A gun held in a jacket pocket will weight down one side of the jacket unevenly.

Environment: Hot or inclement weather can make concealed weapons easier to spot. Rain, wind, or sweat can reveal the outline of a gun, which will generally be much easier to hide under multiple layers of cold-weather clothing.

Negligence: Weapons are also frequently exposed due to temporary negligence, flashed or inadvertently dropped as a gunman reaches for his wallet. Dropped weapons are an all-too-common scenario at public urinals, where inexperienced perpetrators may thoughtlessly unzip their pants — thereby releasing the tension that was holding up the holster.

The Case For Background Checks…NOT!

Days of our Trailers (or as I lovingly refer to them – DOOT) posted recently regarding the hoops some guy had to go through to get a gun in his jurisdiction.  (Spoiler Alert – he received one and should not have!)

The narrative:

Guy who makes lots of mistakes in his youth turns his life around and goes straight.  Family, honest employment helping people, the works.

But he makes several other mistakes.  Big ones.

He changed his name to make things easier to move on, get a good job, not get labelled.  Fair enough.  But under his new name he is still a prohibited person…. and he went and got a gun.

How, you ask, can he do this with all of the licensing and background checks in place?

Easy… The system screwed up…. again and again.

Background check #1: FOID card. Mandatory for any purchase/possession of a firearm or ammo in the state.   30+ days for the state to conduct a background check. Falsifying information on the application is a class 2 Felony.  (question 2)

Background check #2: Firearm purchase.  NICS w/ the form 4473. State mandated 72 hr waiting period for handguns.  Falsifying information on the form is a felony (question 11c) (assuming he purchased the weapon legally that is)

Background check #3: CCW. 90 days for background check w/ fingerprints, 120 days w/o fingerprints.  3-4 months for a simple court records search.

Him merely having the gun was a felony under any circumstance.

So two or three extended time background checks and waiting periods all failed.

Why?

But lets do it again… only harder.

Because, it’s all about CONTROL!

Warning Shots

As reminded to us by Tamara

See this? Don’t do this?

“We have a lot of people outside our house, yelling and shouting profanities,” he said. “I yelled at them, ‘Please leave the premises.’ They were showing a firearm, so I fired a warning shot and, uh, we got somebody that got hit.”

“Someone was shot?” the operator asked.

“Well, I don’t know if they were shot or not, ma’am,” he told her. “I fired my warning shot like I’m supposed to by law. They do have firearms, and I’m trying to protect myself and my family.”

This dude messed up by the numbers, killed a man, and wrecked his life and his family’s life, in addition to those of his victim and his victim’s family, all because he was stupid and believed a lot of the sort of BS self-defense advice you pick up from well-meaning ignorant morons in gun stores and on the internet.

Folks, self defense with a firearm is no joke. This is life and death stuff right here; it literally does not get more serious than that. With great power comes great accountability.

I think it was Jeff Cooper who said warning shots were tactically unsound.  First, they alerted the bad guys as to your exact location.  Second, they wasted a possibly valuable round of ammunition.  He recommended generally against them, but if one absolutely had to, put one into a solid backstop or an advancing assailant.  THAT should get their attention!
My initial CCW instructor taught us to remember every round sent downrange is a potential million-dollar lawsuit.

CLEVELAND: DEMONSTRATORS THROWING URINE FILLED BALLOONS AT POLICE, USING LARGE SQUIRT GUNS

Via Billy

https://i1.wp.com/static.conservativetribune.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/protesters-vs-police-in-Cleveland.jpg

This actually shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone, as some of the Occupy Wall Street protests of several years ago were known to feature the use of bodily waste in some form or fashion, whether in a balloon thrown at a cop or a big steaming pile on top of a police cruiser.

Furthermore, there was an unconfirmed report just a couple of days ago during the lead up to the convention in Cleveland that law enforcement had discovered and taken possession of a “stockpile” of more than 100 pounds of human waste meant to fill balloons, no doubt for Tuesday’s lovely demonstration of tolerance and civility.

I remember, in a previous lifetime, a discussion with a high-school classmate, regarding the then-not-so-recent unpleasantness at the 1968 Democratic Convention.  You see, he had recently moved from the Chicago area, had participated in those protests, and was an avowed communist.  And the ‘media’ had repeatedly shown abuse of the poor demonstrators by police on the nightly news. (“The whole world’s watching, the whole world’s watching!”)
I’d heard rumors about the demonstrators using similar tactics (baggies filled with excrement and urine) against the police, to incite them to violence.
Of course, these disgusting assaults were not reported in the main stream media…
So, I asked him.  And he said, yes, the tactics were indeed true.
Then he exclaimed “F****** PIGS!”  No regret or apology in the offing.
It’s nice to know that The Left continues to use tried and true techniques, and holds to the same rational mindset, albeit 48 years apart!   *~X( at wits' end

Is This The Beginning Of The End?

I’m speaking of this Republic.

With Rome, it was either when the Ottoman Turks took Byzantium (Constantinople) 1453 AD or when a barbarian deposed the last western Roman emperor 476 AD (ancient history About.com)

My Western Civilization professor said it began with (and I’m quoting here) “Moral decadence and pleasures of the flesh!” (to the cheers of the 400 or so horny underclassmen)

What is/was the beginning of the end of this Constitutional Republic we know as The United States?

The Whiskey Rebellion? (1791)

The Civil War? (1861)

Federal income tax (1913)

Direct election of Senators?  (1913)

Establishment of the Federal Reserve?  (1913)

The National Firearms Act (1934)

Or is it an amalgamation of these and many other things, eating away at our Constitutional substance, punctuated by further federal government oversteps such as Ruby Ridge and Waco?  No-knock warrants, followed by airport searches and sobriety checkpoints.  Massive surveillance of our electronic communications.  Prohibitions of Speech seen as ‘politically-incorrect’.  The killing of Blacks by police – whether or not legitimate actions – spun by self-serving propagandists into an ersatz race war?

Now followed by widespread racial civil unrest, punctuated by acts of terrorism against civil authority.

I’m certain all ‘civilizations’, be they primitive neolithic cultures like the American Indian when the White man first laid eyes on him, or the Romans, or the Christian Turks all thought they would endure forever.

And so have most of we Americans.

I guess the true question isn’t what was the tipping point.

It’s what do we do NOW?
