A Late Notice For Arizonans!

And enterprising (shooter and other) visitors to the Phoenix area…

(It’s not my fault!  The NRA/ILA dropped the ball – Guffaw!)

Table Mesa Recreation Area is a very popular with recreational target shooters, off-highway vehicle riders, equestrians, mountain bikers, hikers, and others because of its close proximity to the Phoenix area. Unfortunately, this area is also prone to illegal dumping, littering, and debris that need to be cleaned up. Volunteer clean up events are the only way to keep this heavily used area an enjoyable place to recreate.
Please bring water, work gloves, hat, sunscreen, trash pinchers, buckets, and wear long pants and sturdy shoes. 4WD and OHV vehicles are useful.
The event will be held this Sunday from 8:00 to Noon.
The Table Mesa Recreation Area is located off I-17 (Mile Marker 236) and Table Mesa Road. Head west on Table Mesa Road, then north on the frontage road. Follow signs posted at the end of the pavement. Volunteers will also be on site providing more information and directions. Please park in rows as directed by signs and volunteers when signing in. If parking along a road, park only on one side of the road to prevent blocking traffic.
We regret the short notice asking our NRA members to come out and volunteer. Many have in the past and we hope you can help this Sunday. If you can, please wear your NRA shirt or hat to identify you as a NRA volunteer. Every volunteer counts for this event!

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend.  😦

This is one my favorite desert shooting venues (as it was Bob Hall’s) and is constantly in need of attention.  Please help if you are able.

The World Turned Upside Down, Part Dos…

A report at The Navy Times in July confirmed that one of the Marines shot during the Chattanooga terrorist attack exchanged fire with the terrorist. Navy Lt. Cmdr Timothy White also shot back at the terrorist.

But rather than being celebrated as a hero, Lt. Commander White may be charged for discharging a firearm on federal property.

Allen West reported this week that Lt. Commander Timothy White

This is obscene!  Nothing more needs to be said.

THIS JUST IN – The Navy reports they are NOT going to charge Lt. Commander White!  I wonder if this is a reversal of opinion, or the story was previously misreported?

Love Potion (Hoppe’s) #9

hoppesI don’t have much occasion to clean firearms, anymore.

Why?  I don’t get to shoot very much.

I noticed after my last outing that I was low completely out of my mainstay solvent, Hoppe’s #9!

I went to a nearby firearms emporium to get some.  They not only didn’t have any, they said they didn’t even stock it!

So I had to settle for some Remington-branded ‘green’ gun cleaner.

It seemed to work okay, but it didn’t have the olfactory thrill (toxicity) of the Hoppes.

Scientists tell us that the sense-of-smell is deeply ingrained in our psyche.  Food tastes better, uh personal interactions are better, when the nose is working properly.  Memories are triggered.

I’d drive to a farther gun shop, but my car is failing…

I really miss the smell of Hoppe’s!  It can be ordered on line, but the interstate chemical transport fees are huge!  So much for THAT idea!

Of course, there was that waitress who smelled of Ivory Soap….

(Sorry, another memory triggered!)

FTC – Hoppe’s and Remington gave me nothing!  Go clean your own guns and find your own waitresses!

Gun Control (by the cops)

Kevin Baker brings us the news…

News out of L.A. last week:

Shooting during Dorner stakeout violated policy, panel rules

Eight Los Angeles police officers who opened fire on two women delivering newspapers in a pickup truck during the hunt for Christopher Dorner violated the LAPD’s policy on using deadly force, the department’s oversight body found Tuesday.

In making its ruling, the Police Commission followed the recommendation of LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, who faulted the officers for jumping to the conclusion that Dorner was in the truck. Beck said the officers compounded their mistake by shooting in one another’s direction with an unrestrained barrage of gunfire.

Reports made public Tuesday offered new details of the hours that led up to the shooting and how it erupted into a wild, one-sided firefight in which the officers fired shotguns and handguns more than 100 times. One woman was shot twice in the back; her daughter received superficial wounds.

A panel of high-ranking police officials that reviewed the shooting urged Beck to clear the officers of wrongdoing, according to several sources who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the case.

Violated policy. POLICY. How about LAW? Common sense? Decency?

So, thirty days without donuts, or do they get a six-week paid vacation (suspension with pay)?

For those who don’t remember, L.A.P.D. has a history of being full of corrupt, mob-ridden, political creatures.  Chief Parker decided to take the Hollywood approach, and use P.R. to shine the agencies image.  TV shows like Dragnet and Adam-12 were the result.

All this while the Hat Squad was operating behind the scenes.

For Hollywood’s take on this, go watch Mullholland Falls and L.A. Confidential.

Rollo Tomasi, indeed!

Paper or Plastic? (or Glass?)

bottlesI’ve been shooting, as an adult, since 1974.  And, I’ve made some mistakes, like occasionally failing to follow The Four Rules (see the sidebar).  Those stories have been recounted here.  Fortunately, no serious injuries have resulted.  I have learned from my mistakes.

But there are other errors-in-judgement in which I’ve not participated, fortunately.  And I keep seeing them on TV Shows.  Not old movies like The Shootist, but modern television, like Top Shot and Sons Of Guns.

PEOPLE SHOOTING GLASS IN NATURE

Why would anyone want to spoil a natural environment using bottles or other glass objects as targets?  Plastic milk jugs, aluminum cans, paper and cardboard targets can all be policed up and taken away with us, leaving the desert (forest, etc.) relatively unspoiled.

I think it was Col. Cooper who said shooting glass leaves behind a legacy spoiling the shooting area for many generations.  And some folks with whom I’ve shot say it’s their DUTY to leave the area nicer than when they started!

Let’s police the area, pick up our targets and pick up our brass, people.

It’s for the children!  🙂

Call Me RACIST…

…and Bob Owens, as well.  For not buying what they are selling.

WaPost op-ed blames whites for mass shootings; fact remains minorities are over-represented for ALL murder types, including mass murder.

an excerpt:

A pair of sister-researchers that make their living off the government teat have decided to blame white men for mass shootings:

Whites are under-represented by race in mass shootings, as are Hispanics, when you look at percentage of total population. Don’t take my word for it, either; look at the stats kept by über-left-wing Mother Jones.

Over-represented are Asians, like Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho, One L. Goh, Jeong Soo Paek, Jiverly Wong, Byran Koji Uyesugi and Gang Lu who are all East Asian, and West Asian/Arabs, such as Nidal Hassan, and Abdelkrim Belachheb, whom the sisters dishonestly label “white.”

Also over-represented are black mass murders like Omar S. Thornton, Maurice Clemmons, Charles Lee Thornton, William D. Baker, Arthur Wise, Clifton McCree, Nathan Dunlap, Colin Ferguson, and we’re not even including the DC Snipers, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, because they are arguably serial killers instead.

While white mass murderers are given considerable airtime, black mass murderers are ignored by the mass media as quickly as they possibly can… including the racist Washington Post.

Are these overtly liberal sisters really sure they want to start playing race games? As it invariably leads back to the failure of progressive social engineering, I don’t think they do.

As for calling us racist, I’m certain someone will.  It’s their modus operandi.

"Round up the usual suspects."

In Loving Memory…
