How Google and other Tech Companies are Working to Turn People Against the 2nd Amendment

(from American Gun News, in part)

Google and other companies in the Silicon Valley are no longer content to simply donate as much spare cash as possible to anti-gun candidates for federal office. The tech moguls in the bluest of blue districts in the United States have chosen a side in the culture wars and are taking direct aim at the 2nd Amendment. Here is how Google and other tech giants are actively working to turn people against your gun rights.

Google
eBay was the first tech giant to ban firearms sales from its platform, but Google was not far behind. This should come as no surprise considering the eight-year game of “musical chairs” between Google and the notoriously anti-Second Amendment Obama administration. A staggering 258 executives and government employees rotated jobs through the revolving door between the Obama White House and Google between 2009 and 2016. At the end of Barack Obama’s first term, Google suddenly banned the sale of firearms from its shopping platform, declaring guns and ammo to not be “family safe.” Not family safe? That bigoted statement alone has the power to shape public perception about firearms.
Then consider the creepy report from the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology in 2015. Researchers discovered that Google’s search algorithm can manipulate 20 percent or more of undecided voters to switch their votes!
Robert Epstein, the senior research psychologist on the study, told Politico that Google has the ability to “control a wide variety of opinions and beliefs … [more] than any company in history has ever had.” If Google can trick people into switching their voting preferences, it’s easy to see that it could be doing the same thing with opinions on gun rights.

Facebook
This social media giant has been moving toward becoming an online shopping platform more and more in recent years, but in 2016 Facebook suddenly began treating gun owners as pariahs. To this day, Facebook refuses to say how many gun enthusiast pages it took down in a massive purge when it rolled out a new policy to ban the private sales of firearms — which are legal in most states.
Facebook has assigned a liaison to help bring gun enthusiast pages into compliance with its policy, but many gun owners simply abandoned the platform and went elsewhere, according to Forbes. This is just another instance of a giant Silicon Valley company treating gun owners as second-class citizens, with a separate set of rules and regulations that other retailers do not have to abide by. This is compounded by anti-gun activists poring over Facebook posts and flagging anything related to guns as “offensive” until Facebook takes the post or a user’s entire page down.

Shadowbanning
Insiders at Twitter admitted in 2016 that the company has been shadowbanning the tweets of prominent conservatives, including many Second Amendment patriots. A “shadowban” is simply a form of censorship in which the tech giant that censors you never tells you that you’ve been censored. You can still tweet a picture of that new sidearm you purchased, but none of your friends or family members will ever see it because it was shadowbanned. Many Facebook users have reported that their posts have been shadowbanned as well.

Payment Platforms
Online services PayPal, Stripe and Square have all banned gun stores from using their platforms for business. Never mind that these are lawful businesses operated by federal firearms license holders who conduct background checks before all sales.

Gladwin Guns and Ammo in Merced, CA filed a lawsuit against the three Silicon Valley money transfer services in June of 2017. Owner Blair Gladwin told the Merced Sun-Times, “They flat-out shut me down. My livelihood is on the line, because my revenue is going to drop.” 2nd Amendment enthusiasts will want to keep an eye on this case, because it could have a nationwide impact on whether lawful gun stores are allowed to use the same services as most other businesses.

Conclusion
Google and other tech giants are sending gun owners, gun shops and people who simply support gun rights to the “back of the bus” in 2017. Constant discrimination like this against gun owners does have an impact on public perception and this is a problem that all gun owners should be concerned with — especially knowing the tremendous power that the Silicon Valley wields with its vast troves of data on Americans.

This should be of no surprise, as Northern California (and California in general) is a bastion of liberal political thought.  It is surprising that Amazon (farther North in Washington State), while not selling firearms, does allow sale of  accessories, stocks, lubricants and novelty items (a chocolate Glock?).

The problem is, unless we ‘protest’ these entities by going off the grid (no cellular telephones, tablets, payment platforms or social networking, or using their services), they will continue to make huge dollars unabated.  And continue to ‘control’ the masses.

BEHIND ENEMY LINES: Five Of The Best Ban State Products

(from TFB, in part)

But, but, I live in the People’s Republic of___________ (fill in the blank) and cannot get________.  (fill in the blank)

Perhaps not, but here’s some possible alternatives!

Credit: Phase 5 Weapon Systems

It is easy for those of us who live in states without “assault weapon” ban (or worse) restrictions to thumb our nose at shooters in California, New York and New Jersey. Some of the compliant builds I have seen would make any respectable shooter want to cry. But how does the saying go: “walk a mile in a man’s shoes”? Having lived in enemy territory for a decade, I can sympathize with our range-loving brothers and sisters being held captive by ridiculous regulations.

Sure, I can see the comments section filling up now: “shall not be infringed”, “will not comply” or better yet  “F*** California”. It may seem simple to just brush off whole sections of the country as lost when you don’t know anyone who lives there. But, if you have family or shooting buddies in California or New York, you may actually start to sympathize with their plight and understand why they buy, build and use the guns and gear they do.

As a writer here at TFB, I probably haven’t done a great job at highlighting the important work being done by manufacturers catering to restricted-style products. So in an attempt to turn things around, I asked for help from the social media powerhouse #hashtagtical who works alongside organizations like The Calguns Foundation to promote responsible gun ownership in California. Of course, we steer clear from politics here, but any organization that promotes the safe and legal use of firearms obviously gets my support.

Now, “top 5” lists can be annoying and seem like click bait – you know, like the rags in the grocery line with headlines that read ‘41 ways to please your… Boss’. And we’ve reported on a few of these products before. However, I’d like to start with this story, take input from our readers, and move forward with additional products in the future. Have a suggestion? Leave a comment, send me an email or follow us on social media.

Behind Enemy Lines? Check These Out:

Mean Arms Mag Loader

Our new MA-Loader is a California compliant, 10-round bullet loading device that will allow you to safely and efficiently reload your fixed magazine without the need to break down the firearm. Simply place the MA-Loader into your AR-15’s ejector port and press the thumb-ring slider to quickly load or reload. It is that simple!**

The AR Mag Lock

AR MAGLOCK allows California AR-15 owners to comply with existing fixed magazine laws, thus avoiding Department of Justice registration. The AR MAGLOCK engages the magazine so it stays “fixed” in the firearm until the action is disassembled, complying with California SB 880 & AB 1135, and Department of Justice regulations. It is our reasonable belief the AR MAGLOCK complies with New York NY SAFE , Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey and other states (and other local municipalities such as Cook County Illinois) detachable magazine laws based on our in depth analysis of these laws and regulations.

Strike Industries:

The Strike Industries Simple Featureless grip matches the contour of our popular Enhanced Pistol Grip, but allows for usage in feature restricted jurisdictions. The SFG requires no permanent modification to the receiver of your host system, and is constructed of durable reinforced polymer. As suggested by the name, the SFG a simple and affordable component for your featureless AR build.

Cross Armory Quick Pins

By removing your rear takedown pin and installing Cross Armory’s QUICK PINS you will enjoy improved convenience when breaking down your weapon. QUICK PINS allow for easy opening and servicing of your weapon with a simple pinch of your fingers. Closing and locking your receivers together is as easy a closing the two receivers together, QUICK PINS will automatically lock your receivers into place. QUICK PINS allow for the easiest access to your firing mechanism.

LWRCI CA Compliant Modifications

FROM MILES V.’s SHOT 2017 COVERAGE: LWRC’s answer to the new California compliance laws is a sort of spring operated plunger that deactivates the magazine release once the upper receiver is assembled onto the lower receiver. Field stripping the rifle and ‘popping the top’ allows the plunger to be released, and the magazine to be released naturally by pressing the magazine button. To facilitate the field strip, LWRC has extended the rear take down pin to include a sort of port that makes gripping it easier, but also allows for a piece of 550 cord or likewise material to be threaded through the port and creating a loop to pop the rear take down pin out. Unlike other companies that have a specific Cali-Legal rifle variant, LWRC has this as an option, wherein most of the companies models can be retrofitted with the plunging device and rear take down pin. Currently it is patent-pending, but it has been approved by the California DOJ.

YRMV, depending on how restrictive your State actually is.  Check with a lawyer before making such a purchase if you have any question as to it’s legality.

How these work-arounds meet with your individual State laws (N.Y., N.J.?) is up to you to research.

I am NOT a lawyer!

I am SO GLAD I live in the (relatively) Free State of Arizona!  Of course, I cannot afford anything, regardless.

BEE Prepared!

beeI’ve oft written here (or copied stolen other’s writings) regarding the substitute of ‘science’-with-an-agenda attached, versus pure science.

And, it seems to have happened, yet again!

First, DDT was BAD.  It must be banned.

Then, the World was getting colder.  The NEW Ice Age was upon us.

Followed by The Ozone Layer was being eaten away by hydrocarbons.

More recently, the World is getting WARMER.  No WAIT!  Weather is changing!

Now, we are losing BEE populations at an alarming rate!  It’s the evil pesticides and GMOs, again!  Ban stuff!

Of course, most of us are not scientists, and trust those who are to evaluate evidence without concern for the outcome, to give us a possible solution.

And governments world-wide jump on the band wagon to take control of the ‘problem’, even if it doesn’t exist!

Turns out DDT does remain present, but doesn’t seem to be harmful in the long run.  Too bad, it’s banned!

The New Ice Age didn’t happen.

The hole in the ozone closed.  Another crisis avoided apparently in a natural cycle.  Of course, many chemicals were banned, regardless.

Climate Change?  Yep, it happens.  But unless scientists skew their results to fit a socialist agenda, humanity appears to not be responsible.

Regarding THE BEES:

The New Bee Crisis Is Just Like The Old One: Phony (Forbes)

I do find it interesting that every environmental ‘crisis’ comes now with an attached (socialist/world-wide) solution.

It’s for the children, ya know!

No One Wants To Take Your Guns

…but, they sure as Hell will!

(from my friend Kevin @ The Smallest Minority)

I WILL NOT Register

I discovered in 2003 that the state of New Jersey had outlawed the original Marlin Model 60 .22 caliber rifle as an “assault weapon” because its tubular magazine held “more than 10 rounds.”  Now New York City has done something similar, but it’s magazine capacity limit is five.  And they’re serious about it:
 photo New_York_Assault_Weapon.jpg
The only effective use of a firearm registry is to make it easier to take guns away from the law abiding.I will not register.  After the first felony, the rest are free.
Thank the gods I live in the (relatively) Free State of Arizona, wherein there is no registration, both CCW licensing and Constitutional Carry, and (still) open carry.  And with my five-year CCW permit, no background check for me, if I choose to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer.
(of course, being on disability means my income precludes any firearm purchase!  😦  )
Funny how we share a border with The People’s Democratic Republic of California, and none of their ridiculous restrictions on civil liberties have bled over.
Not that Bloomberg & Co. don’t keep trying.

If It’s SCARY, It Should Be ILLEGAL!

(from The Firearm Blog, in part)

The last few months in the US have been pretty tumultuous if you have been watching the news. Without getting too political, we have seen terror attacks, hate crimes, and a multitude of other criminal activity. It is truly unsettling and has a lot of people on edge. Some people want to scream gun control or make other arguments, but I digress. What is interesting is what firearms some Americans think should be legal or illegal. Vox, an internet news site, tried to delve into that exact topic.

Vox teamed up with Morning Consult and tried to ask the question of firearm legality. They asked 2,000 people whether certain firearms should be legal or illegal merely based on appearance and their name. The infographic below is very telling. The less it looks like a hunting firearm and the more scary it appears lead whoever they surveyed to believe it should be illegal!

You get some interesting, and maybe not surprising results, when you start to identify respondents by their political affiliation. Vox and Morning Consult took it a few steps further by dividing results from their survey by gender. Their full story and results can be found HERE.

Yeah, regardless of what the polls think (democracy), I will keep my guns and, if at all possible add more.

Yale Students Tell English Profs: Too Many White Male Poets: Ill-prepared to take race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity courses

Via Billy

Some Yale University students are demanding changes to the English Department curriculum: specifically, they don’t think it should feature so many English poets who were straight, white, wealthy, and male.

“It is your responsibility as educators to listen to student voices,” the students wrote in a petition to the faculty. “We have spoken. We are speaking. Pay attention.”

The “Major English Poets” sequence, a mandatory two-course commitment for English majors, is particularly problematic, according to the students. These classes cover Geoffrey Chaucer, Edmund Spenser, William Shakespeare, John Donne, John Milton, Alexander Pope, William Wordsworth, and T.S. Eliot. It’s not the most diverse line up, to be sure, but it’s the one that best reflects history the way it actually happened. Inarguably, these are the most influential poets in the English language.

But students think this sequence “creates a culture that is hostile to students of color.”

More @ Reason
I don’t know where to begin on this.  Seriously.
Let’s ask the Incas, or the Aztecs or the Sioux.  Or the Australian aboriginal peoples.  Or the Bantu.
Did predominantly White cultures subjugate, control and kill these people?*  Yes.  Have we spent the last one hundred + years or more trying to preserve primitive cultures, history, culture, etc. as a direct reaction to what happened before?  Of course.
Is that enough?  Maybe not.
But, eliminating Whiteness is not an answer.  Show us the great Bantu poets and we will include them in poetry curricula!
Oh!  Don’t forget to petition the Romans about the Etruscans or the Carthaginians.
Sorry, can’t do that – no one is left…
Perhaps they should consider attending a university in Zimbabwe?
Hmmm…
*Did persons of the same color ALSO subjugate, control and kill these people?  Yep.

“We Must Do SOMETHING!”

This seems to be something inherent in humanity.

When a crisis occurs, we want need to do SOMETHING!  ANYTHING!

Even though so much of our lives is out of our control…

“There must be something we can do?”  (After someone had passed, to comfort the survivors) “If there’s anything I can do?”

And, of course, after tornadoes, hurricanes, fires, or riots, or a mass shooting (or stabbing, as recently in Sacramento)…

We must do SOMETHING!

It makes we, as humans, feel better about our powerlessness.

“I KNOW!  Let’s pass another LAW!”

When did we become so disconnected from how things work that we think ‘the government’ passing yet another law (which are selectively enforced, if at all, anyway) will solve any problems?

Bank robbery is already illegal.  Let’s make it even more illegal by passing laws restricting the kinds of firearms the robbers might steal to use!

“Double-secret probation!” – Dean Wormer (Animal House)

I have an idea.

First, lets undo the glut of useless, poorly-written laws clogging up the books since the first gun control (prohibiting freed slaves from owning firearms) was passed in 1809.

THEN…

Let’s let people protect themselves and others from those who would threaten harm.

As we used to allow do:

Protecting our families with hope while evil has guns is not protecting our families. We are in a gun fight and some do not want to give us a fighting chance.

And how about school districts hiring  honorably-discharged veterans (with security skills) as school security?  Jobs for vets, and schools more secure.

Easy-Peasy!

Did You Ever Notice…?

(With apologies to Sixty Minutes’ Andy Rooney)

Did you ever notice, when a ‘large’ crime, or terrorist act occurs, that The Left immediately (before the ink or blood is even dry) screams to have guns, all guns, some guns, evil-looking guns, ‘high-capacity’ guns, military-styled guns, ‘assault’ weapons, Saturday Night specials, ‘assault clips’ (etc.) BANNED?

Regardless whether or not the aforementioned firearms were even used in the heinous attack?

AND, The Right usually responds by screaming at the Left for their attempts to restrict individual rights, and purchases as many of the potentially banned firearms as possible? And the many gun rights organizations demand request we send letter of protest and as many dollars as possible to their lobbying arm to thwart the Left’s attempts at restrictive legislation?

(Of course, this doesn’t work as well when the gun restrictions are mandated by executive fiat!)

BUT, rarely does such legislation ever see the light of day(!)

While I support efforts by gun rights groups to help us keep our freedoms, I am reminded that many such organizations would cease to exist (or in the least be downsized) if money was not proffered by us.

Not unlike The American Cancer Society, The Jerry Lewis MD Telethon, Party X, Party Y, yatta, yatta.  If we didn’t send money, they would dry up.

But gun rights would not be extinguished.

Because we, as individuals, would have to pick up the gauntlet.

And perhaps that’s WHY they exist – our laziness as individual citizens(?)

Hasn’t Anyone Read the Democrats Sit-In Bill? OMG

From Alan Korwin’s email this morning, in part…

The Infamous No-Fly No-Buy Gun Bill HR 2578:

“Blatant Rape of the Constitution.”

— Legislators who proposed this should be removed from office —

Has anyone even read the bill that had democrats
staging a sit-in on the floor of Congress?

“No district court of the United States
or court of appeals of the United States
shall have jurisdiction to consider the
lawfulness or constitutionality of this section…”

It gets worse.

Under the excuse of fighting terrorism, these democrats, with republican allies, wanted to deny Americans their individual rights to travel by air — or obtain arms — without probable cause, without due process, and get this — without being able to view the evidence against them or face their accusers. Their accusers and the evidence remains a secret. Your rights would be denied solely by a secret-police list.

You can’t challenge the proposed law’s legality… because it hasn’t got any. It would not pass even the slightest scrutiny, and they know that, hence that clause above in bold. My republican senator from Arizona, Jeff Flake, supports this, smiling when he announced it on TV.

The people proposing this 17-page tyrannical travesty should be removed from office.

And THIS STATIST CLOWN is the more ‘conservative’ of Arizona’a two Senators!  (The other being McCain!)  Barry Goldwater must be spinning in his grave!

Even if you are not from Arizona, please contact this guy’s office in protest! (link below)
