More specifically, Don’s Sport Shop, in Scottsdale…
Dave the mechanic and I were ‘window shopping’ (both being young and relatively poor, there was no way either of us could afford to purchase a firearm).
And we were checking out all the related gear, as well (hunting, fishing, camping), just because.
And there is was, a Jimmy Stewart Game Caller!
We spent subsequent hours (days, weeks, years) sharing with each other our impressions of Jimmy calling in game:
“A quack!, a quack! here duck, here duck!”
(Sadly, neither one of us could do even a passable imitation of Mr. Stewart – not that it mattered.) 😛
We re-visited Don’s two or three times a year, for many following years, always recharging our memories and chuckles regarding Jimmy’s Game Caller.
During one subsequent visit, we spotted it again on the shelf, and determined that the product was actually named the JOHNNY Stewart game caller! As it had been printed in a script font – and we were young and not paying much attention, anyway – we hadn’t noticed the difference!
This failed to stop us from continuing our poor imitations of Jimmy for a number of years.
Boys just gotta have fun!
(FTC – neither Don’s, nor Jimmy Stewart (sorry Johnny Stewart!) gave us anything. Go away. I remember buying ammunition in later years, but I drove by the other day and it was named Don’s something else. And Don’s Sport Shop doesn’t have a site on Google! Tempus Fugit.)
(I’m generally a rule follower – unless, of course, they are silly, or put me in danger. I DO like order, and dislike those who endanger those close to me – whether or not it’s through self-centeredness or malice. – Guffaw)
We’re staying at an undisclosed location, while the powers-that-be are repairing the shower leak in the townhouse. Or at least beginning the process. (The ceiling beneath the leak has been excised, and is being dried. We await the plumbers and subsequent reconstruction. No contractors present today!)
All guests herein are required to sign a form that this is a non-smoking campus.
My roommate is extremely asthmatic, and is sensitive to tobacco smoke.
So, this is a positive development.
On Day One here, she smelled smoke in the hall directly outside our room. On Day Two, it happened again, more intensely. We notified the front desk.
The second day, it did negatively affect her breathing. It was definitely stronger.
And pissed us off. We contacted the front desk.
Subsequently, we heard a loud discussion outside our room. Upon opening the door, we observed the general manager in confrontation with the tenants directly across the hall.
They were ‘young people’ (under 40).
At length, the manager called us and advised they had been charged an additional $250. As both a penalty, and to clean the room.
And they were evicted from the hotel!
I understand the mechanism of addiction. And also understand one must make amends for one’s mistakes. This is a step in the right direction.
PS – I’m NOT against smoking. It’s a quasi-legal activity, using a legal substance. And, I don’t like smokers being treated as third-class citizens.
But, follow the rules to which you agreed, people!

Except this time it’s the French Elections…
Massive email hacks, release of data, and…
RUSSIAN HAND SEEN
Former economy minister Macron’s campaign has previously complained about attempts to hack its emails, blaming Russian interests in part for the cyber attacks.
On April 26, the team said it had been the target of a attempts to steal email credentials dating back to January, but that the perpetrators had failed to compromise any campaign data.
The Kremlin has denied it was behind any such attacks, even though Macron’s camp renewed complaints against Russian media and a hackers’ group operating in Ukraine.
Full article, HERE.
And an interesting twist, the French government has put out a warning about publishing any of the hacked material.
France’s electoral commission has ordered media not to publish contents of Emmanuel Macron‘s leaked campaign emails to avoid influencing the election.
It warned news outlets in France that journalists could face criminal charges for publishing or republishing the material, under laws that came into effect at midnight forbidding any commentary liable to affect the presidential race.
So once again the ‘Russians’ are at play… Or are they? Or will we ever know the real answer???
My guess is probably not. When one considers that the average 14 year old hacker in momma’s basement is capable of using these same tools, and most ‘attributable’ to Russian/Ukrainian coders, it could be anybody…
Of course, he’s right on the money.
I do find it interesting how the Left continues to propagate the fiction that the Russians are behind so much election fraud. Because, after all, they would prefer a populist right-wing anti-communist with military leanings (Mr. Trump) over assorted other Leftists (Hillary, Sanders) ?
And forget the previous anti-colonialist leftist White House occupant…
Now, it’s the same in the French election. Supporting a right-wing nationalist…
Funny, the middle-of-the-road cat won?!
(Naw – no political agenda attached here…) 😛
I attended a small, non-political meeting of personal interest to me yesterday morning. One of the ‘rules’ is we don’t discuss politics – AFTER the event begins.
BEFORE it began, however, one of the participants began whining how later Saturday morning there was scheduled to be a ‘Climate March’. I inquired if it was for or against the climate.
She didn’t get it.
I saw THIS, this morning on Free North Carolina…
Leftists commies marched today to protest ‘climate change justice’ whatever that means, and did so by marching with Communist flags in front of the White House.
I guess an ideology that killed over 100 million people will bring justice to the United States. Leftists don’t even hide their support for Communism anymore. These people are historically illiterate, most likely a product of ‘higher education’.
Climate Change Justice? I guess Lenin’s Useful idiots* were out in full force, yesterday.
The idea that humanity (read Western Civilization) is responsible for all of the problems in the World, including changes in the climate (due to industrialization, pollution, and probably being White) is ludicrous, especially given the freedom and prosperity brought to more individuals from these systems that at any time in recorded history. (And ignoring the blackmail and bribery used to fudge the climate figures!) The fact they see the solution to this situation as rampant globalization, human rights abuses, and income redistribution (leveling the playing field) and refusal to acknowledge the continued failure of collectivism toward these ends points to the useful idiots part.
*Lenin’s Useful idiots – how Vladimir Ulyanov characterized college students as easily-manipulated dupes, because of their unformed idealism and lack of Life experience.
I own an HP Pavilion Touchscreen, with an AMD Athlon™ II X2 235e Processor 2.70 GHz 400 GB of RAM (3.75 GB usable) 64 bit operating system, x-64 based processor. She has a 20″ flat, touch screen, with a cordless keyboard and mouse.
I purchased her on-line, refurbished (2011?) And she has served me very well.
Last week, I received a message one of the software protection programs I purchased after-the-fact was in need of annual renewal.
And, frankly, with all that’s going on here (roomie surgery, less income, etc.), I don’t have the funds. (This is NOT a bleg.)
The next day my computer gave me an error message: HARD DRIVE FAILURE IMMINENT! PLEASE BACKUP YOUR FILES (yadda, yadda, yadda). I went back to using the computer, as I do not regularly back it up, and have no discs with which to back it up, anyway.
Besides, what if it was just some malware file from the software company, or elsewhere?
The computer has continued to function, as usual.
Yesterday, there was a blip in my Wi-Fi service (Cox, who knew?). I reset the router (which is inconveniently downstairs). Upon my return, there was the same message I had received a week ago.
I again accessed my computer, and downloaded a free hard drive analysis program.
The program confirmed my hard drive’s demise was imminent indeed!
I have no funds or credit, so buying a new (or well-used) computer is out of the question. Of course, getting it repaired also falls under these criteria.
I CAN check my email and blog from my smartphone or my cheap, Chinese tablet, with some difficulty.
Obviously, not my first choices.
What to do, what to do?
I will continue to blog, daily, changing the quote, cartoon, beauty and YouTube posting as I can. Who knows – maybe she won’t fail until I somehow find a way to get another PC? 🙂
(I know, I’m an optimist!)
(FTC – HP, Athlon, and Cox have given me nothing, save years of good service (Cox, less so.). I paid for the computer, and pay for Wi-Fi.)

…but there were no cars, because there was no fuel.
Venezuela has a bread shortage. The government has decided bakers are the problem.
In a press release, the National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights[*] said it had charged four people and temporarily seized two bakeries as the socialist administration accused bakers of being part of a broad “economic war” aimed at destabilizing the country.
Yup. The honchos in the Venezuelan government were embarrassed by bread lines. So, in a brilliant example of historical illiteracy – dovetailing nice with their economic illiteracy – they arrested a bunch of bakers.
Yeah. We need more government controls here.
Also I’m reminded I need to buy more flour when I’m in the big town next week…
*Dig this: The National Superintendent for the Defense of Socioeconomic Rights is apparently responsible for arresting people who get caught exercising what, in a sane society, would be their socioeconomic rights. Must be socialism.
AH! Government at it’s best! I would have said ‘at HER best’, but that would be insulting all femininity.
“State Representative Jessica Farrar, a Houston Democrat, filed House Bill 4260 Friday, which would fine men $100 for masturbating.”
The story and the screwed up mindset behind this thinking HERE
Uh, how is the government to find out? (I don’t want to be appointed the ‘wanking czar’!)
Seriously, aren’t they already in our lives ENOUGH!

(from Free North Carolina)
The inmates are in charge of the asylum.
California has created a travel ban of its own, which prohibits its own public university students from traveling to “anti-LGBT” states.
The law that went into effect Jan. 1 prohibits state-funded travel to states that are not LGBT-friendly, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.
The law prevents students of the University of California and California State University from traveling to four states outlined by California attorney general Xavier Becerra, including Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Not LGBT friendly? As defined by the California AG?
I’m not certain what that means, exactly. Rejected ‘gender non-specific’ bathroom legislation? Didn’t give extra rights to persons who are gender confused?
How is banning a student from travel (through the use of State funds) going to teach them anything about freedom? (It does teach them about the abuse of State Power.) And, how many students does this affect, exactly? Sports teams? Band members? Debate clubs?
I think the California Attorney General is tilting at windmills, in the name of political correctness.
Regular readers know I am not openly supporting any Presidential candidate (except, of course, Joe Maddon – the Chicago Cubs manager, on my sidebar! 🙂 – bumper stickers for charity! )
So, I’ve been observing the machinations and mewlings of the candidates as a distracted observer. With an airline barf bag at-the-ready!
An interesting side note on this (and most recent) elections, is the degree of partisanship that continues to appear. For example: YOUR candidate said “X” so many years ago (a crude statement), therefore they do not deserve to be President! Completely ignoring the high crimes and misdemeanors perpetrated by their own candidate! A crime being stronger than an inappropriate statement.
Now we have a recent debate (which, again, I refused to watch) wherein Mr. Trump made a number of provocative statements, including if he were President, Secretary Clinton would be in jail!
One would have to be wearing blinders and earplugs to not understand the meaning behind such a statement had to do with her alleged actions involving thousands of confidential government emails and perhaps non-actions involving the deaths @ Benghazi. (The sale of uranium to Russia and the misdeeds of The Clinton Foundation notwithstanding!)
But depending on your party affiliation, you might choose to make Mr. Trump dictatorial and conclude his statement was a blanket declaration to imprison all those who differ with his policies.
And ignore the crimes of your own candidate.
Of course, as oft repeated by Bill O’Reilly*, holding up another’s bad acts do not serve to justify one’s own!
“THEY did it!, so I get to!”
*I used to enjoy watching Mr. O’Reilly, until he began parsing the Second Amendment and stating ‘assault weapons’ (whatever THEY are) should be banned. Then, I stopped watching him. I view him as a populist, saying what ‘the people’ want to hear (not unlike Mr. Trump. Huey Long?). Except, O’Reilly has slightly better filter than Mr. Trump!)

Hofstra University has posted a “trigger warning” sign to warn students about the potentially disturbing content that may be discussed during Monday night’s presidential debate.
According to CBS New York reporter Tony Aiello, a sign inside of the student center at Hofstra reads, “Trigger warning: The event conducted just beyond this sign may contain triggering and/or sensitive material. Sexual violence, sexual assault, and abuse are some topics mentioned within this event. If you feel triggered, please know there are resources to help you.”
Back when I was in college (covered wagons, etc.) there were those doing their duty. Either by questioning the authority of the government to facilitate wars, or by going to fight them! People on both sides of the issue were VERY vocal and emotional.
Yet rarely did either side feel ‘triggered’ and in need of a ‘safe space’ or ‘counseling’ based on someone’s speech alone!
Have our youth become so overly sensitive that this is thought necessary? By the nature of societal evolution?
Or, has this been the plan all along?
