|In an unsurprising turn, officials in the District of Columbia have decided to continue to defend their near total ban on the right to bear arms. On Thursday (published August 25), D.C. filed a petition for rehearing en banc with the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in the combined cases of Grace v. D.C. and Wrenn v. D.C. As we reported last month, the D.C. Circuit struck down the District’s restrictive handgun permitting law that required applicants to show a “good” or “proper” reason for needing to carry a concealed handgun. Under this system, D.C. officials have denied all but a few applicants their right to carry a firearm for personal protection.

(WND) A hurricane is on the way, and preparations always include boarding up windows, stocking up on food, water and batteries, and sometimes fleeing inland.
A governor in one U.S. territory, however, has another plan: Grab all the guns.
According to the Daily Caller, the governor of the Virgin Islands, a U.S. territory, has signed an order to that effect.
The order explains that Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp authorized the territory’s adjutant general “to mobilize such units of the National Guard as are necessary to maintain or restore public order, and to guarantee the safety of life and property,” as Hurricane Irma approaches from the Atlantic.
The adjutant general, he said, “is authorized and directed to seize arms, ammunition, explosives, incendiary material and any other property that may be required by the military forces for the performance of this emergency mission, in accordance with the Rules of Force promulgated by the Virgin Islands National Guard and approved by the Virgin Islands Department of Justice.”
Irma was reported on Tuesday to be a Category 5 hurricane, with winds up to 175 miles her hour, and the eye is expected to pass just north of the heart of the islands on Wednesday.
The Daily Caller said Mapp signed the order Monday.
He warned, “This is not an opportunity to go outside and try to have fun with a hurricane.
“It’s not time to get on a surfboard,” he continued.
The gun seizure order technically also allows authorities to take control of “any other property.”
Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselo and Florida Gov. Rick Scott also declared states of emergencies in anticipation of Irma. But they did not include the gun confiscation authorization.
Mapp wrote that the order was issued under authority of Title 23, Chapter 19, Virgin Islands Code, and insisted it is necessary “to maintain the health, welfare, and safety of the people of the Virgin Islands.”
The adjutant general is given the right to “take whatever actions she considers necessary to carry out the assigned missions.”
The order provides for “payment for salaries, benefits, health insurance, worker’s compensation, necessary meals, fuel and other operational and administrative costs.”
But there was no mention of compensation to gun owners.
DON’T THESE CLOWNS REMEMBER KATRINA AND THE RESULT OF ILLEGAL GUN CONFISCATION THERE?

(Henry Rodgers, Daily Caller News Foundation) CNN published a story Wednesday calling “ordinary” supporters of President Donald Trump white supremacists and blaming them for the violence that occurred in Charlottesville, Va.
CNN Writer/Producer John Blake (CNN screen shot)
“‘White supremacists by default‘: How ordinary people made Charlottesville possible,” CNN blamed Trump voters of helping advance white supremacy, saying the non-racist, “ordinary” Trump voters are giving white supremacists room to operate and are the reason violence erupted in Charlottesville.
“It’s easy to focus on the angry white men in paramilitary gear who looked like they were mobilizing for a race war in the Virginia college town. But it’s the ordinary people — the voters who elected a reality TV star with a record of making racially insensitive comments, the people who move out of the neighborhood when people of color move in, the family members who ignore a relative’s anti-Semitism — who give these type of men room to operate,” CNN’s John Blake wrote, crediting one other professor and “others” for contributing to the story.
You know I’m not a big fan of the President. I am also not a fan of ad hominem attacks (even though in my catagories and tags, I refer to the subject of this article as idiots. 😛 )
But painting everyone who supported the President with such a broad brush is ridiculous! And just wrong. Every Trump supporter I know is not a White supremacist, just as every Hillary supporter I know is not a communist.
And this is not the first time they have crossed the line!
THIS is CNN
THIS is CNN, Part Two
I’m thinking of no longer watching them, or relying on them for ‘honest’ reporting.
(Oh, wait – I did that years ago!)

There have been four arrests in the wake of the vandalism of a Confederate statue Monday night in Durham, North Carolina.
Takiyah Fatima Thompson, Dante Emmanuel Strobino, Ngoc Loan Tran and Peter Hull Gilbert have all been arrested in relation to the unlawful tearing down of the prominent Durham statue.
According to local media, the four could be in for big fines if found guilty:
All three are charged with disorderly conduct by injury to a statue and damage to real property, which are both misdemeanors, and participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and inciting others to riot where property damage exceeds $1,500, which are both felonies.
However, those arrested have something other than potential big fines in common. It turns out that at least three of them are members of the Communist Party. This seldom-reported fact is inconvenient to the narrative that the protest were spontaneous. The protests were in fact organized in large part by the communist Workers World Party, which the arrested members belong to.
According to ABC News, Workers World Party is fighting to bring about a socialist America (emphasis added):
It’s a communist party that was founded in 1959 by a group led by Sam Marcy of the Socialist Workers Party. The group supports myriad issues including anti-racism to anti-imperialist struggles.
The party is active in the Black Lives Matter movement and supports the struggles of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. The group says they’re “dedicated to organizing and fighting for a socialist revolution in the United States and around the world.”The group said it destroyed the statue hoping to “take down white supremacy.”
(more at IJR link, including some lovely photographs of the miscreants!)
Agendas much, Lenin’s useful idiots?
It’s amazing to me how a small group of people (who obviously have the time to protest and vandalize) can accomplish such things. HOW do they live? WHERE does there funding come from?
Hmmm. Let me guess…
Canadian William Shatner REFUSES
To Trash Trump: ‘I Consider Myself a
William Shanter, the ICONIC Star Trek actor himself, refuses to talk ill of President Donald Trump regardless of his feelings for politics. In a recent interview he had with the Daily Beast he spoke all about it, and his new book, ‘Spirit of the Horse’. During this interview, Shatner made it really clear that his name was not to be added to an open letter that was released out of Hollywood last year denouncing Trump’s candidacy.
“I didn’t do that. I would never have done that,” the actor said of the anti-Trump letter posted on the Trek Against Trump Facebook page last September.
There were however, notable personalities of the original star trek series like George Takei (of course) who played Hikaru Sulu, and Star Trek Into Darkness director JJ.Abrams, who was a very avid Clinton supporter did sign that letter.
The Beast reporter did attempt more than once to get Shatner to dish on Trump, and the actor stuck to his guns refusing to do so, making it very clear that he wasn’t willing to speak ill of the president.
“I don’t want to discuss Trump or [George] Takei,” Shatner said, adding: “Listen, I’m Canadian and I’m apolitical. I love America. I consider myself a guest here.”
“I won’t do anything that might get me deported,” the 86-year-old star joked.
The Priceline pitchman, known best for his role as Captain James T. Kirk, commander of the U.S.S. Enterprise, also revealed that while he and Abrams have discussed him having a role in the rebooted Star Trek film franchise, the director hasn’t extended the offer.
“I’ve met with J.J. Abrams, who seems to be running the film franchise now,” Shatner said. “Though I’ve repeatedly expressed my interest in being in one of the Star Trek movies they seem to have no interest in bringing back old Captain James T. Kirk.”
Shatner, who made his small-screen debut as Captain Kirk in 1966, also revealed that he has never seen any of the new films.
A lifelong lover of horses, Shatner’s new book Spirit of the Horse is a love letter to his four-legged friends.
Although he is very liberal in his political beliefs, he knows how to stand for those beliefs without being ridiculous and out of line like his other Hollywood friends.
Yep. I could sit next to him on a plane, introduce myself as a conservative and he’d like me.
That’s how it’s suppose to be.
h/t Facebook, I Have the Truth.com
AMEN, Mr. Shatner and Mr. Wendal!
Now, I’m not an unabashed fan of the current President (although he is certainly a vast improvement over the last one!) Having said that, I tire of the juvenile and sometimes criminal actions taken against the President. Like it or not, he IS the President! And deserves some respect.
(I’d preferred a more libertarian President, stopping this ongoing assault on the Fourth Amendment. One with a better speaking style. Wish in one hand…)
To see and hear (most) Hollywood types continue to attack and beat on him is more than shameful. YES, everyone has a right to an opinion.
But, lets be adult about it, shall we? Disagree on policy choices, not hairstyles!
(Naw – no political agenda attached here…) 😛
I attended a small, non-political meeting of personal interest to me yesterday morning. One of the ‘rules’ is we don’t discuss politics – AFTER the event begins.
BEFORE it began, however, one of the participants began whining how later Saturday morning there was scheduled to be a ‘Climate March’. I inquired if it was for or against the climate.
She didn’t get it.
I saw THIS, this morning on Free North Carolina…
Leftists commies marched today to protest ‘climate change justice’ whatever that means, and did so by marching with Communist flags in front of the White House.
I guess an ideology that killed over 100 million people will bring justice to the United States. Leftists don’t even hide their support for Communism anymore. These people are historically illiterate, most likely a product of ‘higher education’.
Climate Change Justice? I guess Lenin’s Useful idiots* were out in full force, yesterday.
The idea that humanity (read Western Civilization) is responsible for all of the problems in the World, including changes in the climate (due to industrialization, pollution, and probably being White) is ludicrous, especially given the freedom and prosperity brought to more individuals from these systems that at any time in recorded history. (And ignoring the blackmail and bribery used to fudge the climate figures!) The fact they see the solution to this situation as rampant globalization, human rights abuses, and income redistribution (leveling the playing field) and refusal to acknowledge the continued failure of collectivism toward these ends points to the useful idiots part.
*Lenin’s Useful idiots – how Vladimir Ulyanov characterized college students as easily-manipulated dupes, because of their unformed idealism and lack of Life experience.
I used to LOVE the rain! Growing up in the desert, it was rare. Coupled with the addition of huge thunderheads, lightening and sudden downpours, it was the BEST!
Then, I got older and two things happened.
- With age and illnesses came THE arthritis. (It’s a rule, once one reaches their sixties, one is required to put THE in from of the infirmity, i.e. the flu, the AIDS, the arthritis.)
- As people in Arizona don’t get rained-upon very often, unlike Midwest, South, and East-Coast people (and pretty much everywhere else!) they are less familiar with the process of driving in the rain.
AND PRETTY MUCH BECOME DANGEROUS IDIOTS ON THE ROAD, WHEN WATER IS INVOLVED!
So, rain isn’t as much fun for me, as it was when I was age eight.
BUT, I’ve developed a theory.
Remember, when it rains, how earthworms surface on sidewalks?
I’m now convinced that those that escape the sidewalks make it to cars, and start driving like maniacs! Obviously they have less driving experience (with the rarity of precipitation). And many don’t even have licenses!
THIS explains how there seem to be more idiot drivers during rainy weather, than when it is dry!
I’ve posted about the bane of my existence – BUREAUCRATIZILLA – 9 times previously! And, they’ve not picked up the hint!
Not coincidentally, in today’s quote:
“Millions are fascinated by the plan to transform the whole world into a bureau, to make everybody a bureaucrat, and to wipe out any private initiative. The paradise of the future is visualized as an all-embracing bureaucratic apparatus. . . . Streams of blood have been shed for the realization of this ideal.” – Ludwig von Mises
(Please, let me preface this to state my roommate and I are barely scraping by. Me on my disability benefits, her on survivor’s benefits. She can work some, when her infirmities allow. NO, this is NOT a bleg! – Guffaw)
Last week, my roommate received a letter regarding her Survivor’s Benefits from The Social Security Administration. In short, because she reached a certain age, and changed her supplemental insurance, they decided to deduct previously gov’t paid insurance premiums for two months (essentially cutting her modest benefit in HALF!) then begin repaying her the Survivor’s Benefit (at a lower rate!) the third month. She only began receiving her Survivor’s Benefit last year, and could have been receiving it for the previous three years, but did not know it was available.
And this, just when she has been working less due to illness (she is a contract employee), and is preparing to have surgery next month!
It couldn’t have come at a worse time…
BUT, there was a mention on the Social Security letter of an appeal process. As NO ONE was reachable by phone without an extension(!), we had to go into the Social Security satellite office, take a number, and wait about 20 minutes to get the required appeal form. (After disarming, of course!)
Easy peasy, right?
The surprisingly helpful Social Security employee reviewed the letter, and advised us that the appeal needed to be made with the Arizona Department of Economic Security, not Social Security!! It was Medicare who became aware of the insurance change, and notified AZDES, who contacted Social Security to send the letter(?!)
He provided us with the number to call. And as it was late Friday afternoon, the call would have to be the NEXT BUSINESS DAY. AFTER PRESIDENT’S DAY.
People ask me why I distrust government. The above is a prime example. First, they provide you with a benefit. Then, after you become accustomed to it, they screw with it, and take part of it away.
“The government strong enough to give you what you want is strong enough to take it all away.” – Barry Goldwater
Regular readers know I love movies and TV. What you may not know is, I rarely go ‘out’ to the movies.
Part of the reason is the technological shift in how we can view movies. I get them directly on my satellite dish, or through services like NETFLIX™. I even own a ‘few’ on DVD! (I know – OLD technology!) 😛
There are more than enough from which to choose.
And there’s this (from FB, in part – not me!):
Went to the H****** Metrocenter 12 …at the 01:30pm “Jupiter Ascending”…Me and 2 others of my party had to walk out!!!
Some trashy family with 3-4 kids sat right next to us and talked and talked ..and talked…and also they let their kid run up and down in front of us!
Then to top if off….the father had the nerve to pick up one of our parties drinks and hand it to his kid to drink out of ….then said sorry and handed it back “AFTER” his kid (& himself took turns slurping it down!).
I had to had have a friend get a manager…2 (Two) times….then finally got our money back and walked out!!
BAD!!!! I wont be back to the H****** Metrocenter 12…sad missed a film that I had been wanting to see for weeks!
Metrocenter used to be a family-friendly huge, upscale mall, wherein many weekends were spent window and actual shopping. With my then wife and young daughter. Now, with most of the brick-and-mortar department stores closed, it’s become a hang out for misguided yutes.
I remember even in pre-VHS days, attending a different theater and encountering rude people. As the film began, three yutes (misguided teens) began talking loudly to each other and the screen. Against my better judgment, I approached them and strongly suggested I paid good money to hear the movie, and not to hear them sh*** and j***. (Using a 40’s vernacular with which I’m certain they lacked familiarity).
They quieted down, and I spent most of the movie checking my six for some variety of retaliation. Thankfully, none came.
While I sometimes miss the big screens and speakers (remember CINERAMA™ and Dolby™?), it is nice knowing I can pause the film for bathroom and/or beverage, and even watch in my skivvies.
where the Good Lord split ya!
WASHINGTON – Sen. Barbara Boxer of California bid farewell to Congress on Wednesday after 33 years as a liberal champion, choking up as she read a letter from jazz great Sonny Rollins thanking her for “making life beautiful” for the people she’s represented.
“What he said is all I wanted to do, make life beautiful for people,” Boxer said in her farewell speech on the Senate floor. “I didn’t always succeed … I can honestly say that I never stopped trying.”
MORE HERE IF YOU REALLY GIVE A SHIT
Like the old joke about the guy hitting his dates with a two-by-four…
Thirty three years is way too long for anyone, progressive/conservative/green/libertarian to be a sitting United States Senator!
So very glad this one is gone.
If memory serves, she demanded a military officer address her as Senator, instead of Ma’am. Technically, we’re supposed to, in accord with Rules of Etiquette. But an officer operates under different rules!
I, for one, will not. Ever.
