I sometimes get frustrated with the ‘stuff of life’. I’m disabled, on a small disability income, my 15-year old Oldsmobile is more or less parked for lack of funds for needed repairs, and with my disabilities regarding walking, standing or even sitting it is sometimes difficult or painful. And a little less than two years ago I lost my home of 18 years.
Yes, sometimes I whine about other stuff, too.
BUT, I try to keep a stiff upper lip. And keep chipping away at those things that I can do something about.
My stand-alone desktop computer has been waylayed for a little over a month. For most folks having their home computer not functioning correctly is an annoyance, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not that big a deal.
BUT, not being very ambulatory, and now even less mobile, it became readily apparent my computer is a window to the outside world. My email, and 3-year-old blog being it’s primary functions. I can talk back to the TV, but it rarely responds.
FORTUNATELY, my roommate J loaned me an old laptop she wasn’t using for me to keep up with the day’s events and continue to publish my blog (such as it is) daily, as I’ve done since March 6, 2011.
For this I am forever grateful.
Being less-than-competent with regard to computer/Internet stuff, I’ve not been able to diagnose the problem with my computer, determine if it was even repairable, or what the cost might be.
J left town to visit her daughter and become a tourist for the holiday weekend, and I’m left as the dog wrangler again. This is okay, because I love the dogs (and the cat – more or less) and it gives me more time to try to move files to the laptop and play at fixing my old computer.
I DID IT!
Somehow, something inadvertently changed a couple of settings (not me!) – I changed them back (with about 100 missteps in the interim) and now the computer connects to the Internet, again!!
I’m using my original machine to write this!
This may not be watching a rose bloom, or being in love, or a new car, but DAMN I’m pleased!
AND, I’ve been able to get my meds down, and an anxiously awaiting approval from the Leukemia, Lymphomia Society for Tuesdays go-ahead.
Time will tell.
As I grew up doing magic (eventually becoming semi-pro in my teens), I know many secrets – even if I cannot perform them personally. 😛
And, sadly, knowledge kinda ruins watching other magicians! I’m looking for the gimmick, misdirection, the gaffe, the secret – other than just enjoying the performance for entertainment sake.
It takes an unusual talent to keep me interested in the actual performance.
I am also an AZDPS certified/NRA trained instructor. And have trained people professionally in safe gun-handling and proper techniques. I also shot in IPSC competition for a short time.
The point being, while I’m no big-time trainer/shooter, I have been around.
And, this has spoiled many TV shows and movies for me.
It’s hard for me to suspend my disbelief when I see a magician perform poorly (and not on purpose for comedy, ala Carl Balantine!)
The same thing applies to gun handling from Hollywood.
In recent memory, the TV show 24, with the counter-terrorist expert Jack Bauer (played by Kiefer Sutherland) holding his pistol as a cup-and-saucer. Obviously, the set firearms trainer didn’t bother, or the actor didn’t care!
To be fair, Hollywood has generally improved in this area – Michael Mann with Miami Vice and Heat brought in weapons experts. We don’t see the ‘grabbing the wrist’ thing as much as we once did.
I’ve been binge watching Bosch on Amazon. Based on Michael Connolly’s book character, the plots are generally riveting and well acted. And Titus Welliver as the lead is pretty good, as a driven, ‘colors-outside-the-lines’ LAPD detective.
But, they had a big parking lot gun fight last night (Season 2), and many of the ‘professionals’ (both mobsters and cops) confused concealment with cover, and kept doing the jack-in-the-box thing (jumping up from behind something to return fire).
Smile for the camera!
It kinda took the wind out of my sails…
I plan on continuing to watch it, and hope the acting and the plot hide the poor action sequences.
Also, the lead character wears two extra 1911 magazines – placed backwards in the mag pouch (about half the time), making tactical reloads problematic!
I know – picky, picky, picky
Liberal fascists must be running out of Confederate generals to banish to the memory hole. Now they are going after heroes of the Texas Revolution, starting at the top:
The Sam Houston statue has been at Hermann Park since 1925, but a group that calls itself Texas Antifa has started a campaign to take down this and any other landmark that bears the name Sam Houston. …
[Last] Thursday, the group posted on its Facebook page saying, “Texans agree the disgusting idols of America’s dark days of slavery must be removed to bring internal peace to our country.”
The group also suggested Mayor Sylvester Turner should back the removal of the statue, because of his ethnicity and political affiliation.
Turner is a black Democrat.
(Again, for the cheap seats) EDITING (DESTROYING) HISTORY MAKES IT EASIER FOR TOTALITARIAN FORCES TO TAKE OVER. Witness the PRC, North Korea, Vietnam et al.
Not to mention, Sam Houston brought so much more to history than being a slave owner. Just as Andrew Jackson did to New Orleans. Or George Washington to this Republic.
Wake up and stop these fascist control freaks!
I believe in the United States, warts and all…

Over 100 Ruger Pistols Stolen From Chicago Train Yard
It appears that over 100 Ruger pistols were stolen from a Chicago train yard by gangs in a one-time heist. Apparently, this is becoming a large problem in a city that prides itself on its strict gun control measures with over 150 firearms reported stolen from Chicago train yards since 2013. City leadership seems rather clueless about the root cause of the problem, one alderwomen was quoted as saying “How in the world are these kids getting these guns? I see them on Facebook. Everybody got guns. They can’t go purchase a gun, so where are they getting them from?”
It appears that train cars containing firearms are being specifically targeted somehow and is being looked into by the Chicago Police Department. The only way a firearm can be shipped by rail is through the United States Postal Service, most likely by Federal Firearms License holders due to shipping regulations.
You can read more about the theft over at the Fox News website where they covered it in much greater detail (with a political slant as you might imagine.) Even though the story smacks of political overtones, it is interesting to see what happens when a larger problem goes unnoticed while blaming the tool for actions.
Obviously, ‘they’ are ignoring the fact that they are purchasing guns through FFL-licensed dealers (after they obtain their Illinois FOIA card), and that the only way to curtail these purchases is further, more intrusive background checks!/(snark)MAROONS!

National Firearm Survey 2015: Are you a “Hardcore Super Owner”?
(whatever the hell THAT means! – Guffaw)
There’s a new word out there. I’m sure T-shirts, stickers and morale patches are being produced as you read this.
The word is Hardcore Super Owner and apparently we – I am one(!) – are on the rise.
To join the club, you have to own 17 or more guns.
The survey results from the study made by public health researchers at the Harvard and Northeastern universities are still unpublished, but through the Guardian(!?) we get a preview into some of the results.
I’m far from being an expert in statistics, but I’ll begin with saying that I don’t think a survey done on less than 4 000 people (Americans) conducted online by a market research company can tell the truth.
There is also a national panel being paid (or “compensated”) represented in the statistics. There might be “indications” in the survey, but we’ll never get the truth.
The market research company that conducted the tests was: GfK http://www.gfk.com/
According to the numbers in the Guardian, the estimation is that America’s gun stock has increased by 70 million guns since 1994, to a total of around 265 million guns.
Surprisingly – if we trust the figures – the amount of owners has decreased from 25% to 22%.
More guns in fewer hands, according to the study. I have a feeling that gun ownership is on the rise, not decline, and spreading to more individuals.
According to the estimates, 133 million of the 265 million guns (about 50%) are owned by only 3% of the Americans.
The survey also states that about 400 000 guns are stolen each year.
So if you own 17 or more guns, you are classified as a Hardcore Super Owner!
Some more “facts” from the study:
The average American gun owner owns 3 guns.
Almost 8 million Americans own between 8 and 140 guns.
Here’s the entire article, with graphs and everything! :-)I’ve known many folks with one or two guns. Some with NO guns. Some with hundreds. Before my collection was added to the 400,000 stolen, I had 53. :-(One of the more interesting things about this article, are the attached photographs of firearms as displayed in a gun store. In Switzerland!
Many of which may not be owned in The United States! (think there’s an agenda here?)
I now own TWO handguns. And two pellet pistols. Of course, my roommate owns some, as well. How many is her business.
Personally, I think hardcore means mindset!
PS – How many BOOKS do you own? (Just thinking about another amendment…)
Much has been written in these pages and on the Internet regarding George Soros, who unabashedly seems most interested in destroying Western Civilization.
The fact that so many of his fellow travelers and sycophants happily climb on board the train of destruction unnerves me. especially as so many of them were educated in The United States!
From Brock Townsend
George Soros should scare the hell out of anybody with a lick of sense.
Born a Hungarian Jew, his first job was working for the Nazis in World War II, helping to confiscate the property of Jews who were being rounded up, a job he not only never expressed any regret for, but that he described as one of the finest times of his life.
He has described himself, and the power he has as a billionaire, as being like a mad god.
“Next to my fantasies about being God, I also have very strong fantasies of being mad,” Soros said in an interview on British television.
And he certainly has considerable power to back up his fantasies, including the power to make the video clip of his famous 60 Minutes interview, or leaked documents from his Open Society Foundations, virtually disappear from the Internet.
Among the documents that were downloaded by various news outlets before they vanished, there are numerous eye-openers that clarify exactly how deep Soros’ various schemes go, and paint a picture of a man who can manipulate markets, order around governments and arrange coups wherever he likes.
Soros comes about as close to a comic book supervillain as you can get in real life. Honestly, he could give Lex Luthor or Doctor Doom a run for their money.
Among the revelations found so far in the Soros documents:
More @ Constitution
The fact that so many ‘young people’ (and their elders) have their minds manipulated by this clown, whilst their thoughts are buried in comic books and comicons, and superhero movies – and they are well into their 20’s! greatly concerns me.
Of course, that was probably part of the plan all along…
I’ve often written regarding the windshield time and shoe leather expended during my tenure as a private investigator. This is definitely a shoe leather story.
One of the items TV cop and PI shows do not expand upon is the time expended. Especially if the investigation in is the pre-Internet era. Of course, even in today’s CSI-oriented procedural shows, time remains a factor. Collect fluids for the lab – DNA results back after the commercial. Easy-peasy.
In the real world it’s like a minimum of six weeks. Would definitely put a damper on the 44 minute long hour show!
So, here I am, in the Fall, in N.W. Phoenix. Not the oppressive heat of July, but not January, either. Canvassing a neighborhood. On foot.
Three, four fairly long neighborhood streets. Middle-income, mixed ethnicity, probably 3/4 White. (IOW, NOT the ghetto, the barrio or the projects). THANK YOU GOD!
Regardless, still laborious. Lots of walking. Keeping track of each household by address. By name if possible. Returning to empty homes to try to catch folks who had returned. Or get a name off the mailbox (or the mail) for a telephone call later.
All because at the end of one of the blocks, one neighbor’s dog (German shepherd, pit bull, I don’t remember) had broken through the horizontal-wood fence separating the yards and attacked neighborhood kids, seriously injuring one.
Did anyone witness the attack? Or the aftermath? Or someone taunting the dog? Do you know any witnesses with whom I could speak?
As if most of the neighbors were in one or the other of the fenced back yards…
Due diligence was still necessary.
I walked and walked. Knocked on a lot of doors. Rang a lot of doorbells. Received little information. From this procedure (which took two afternoons and two evenings, by myself) or the follow-up telephone calls.
I remember one household. Across the street from the feuding neighbors. Had Mexican immigrants therein, all of whom had to fill the doorway when the person answering announced (to no one in particular) INVESTIGATOR! (een-ves-ti-ga-tor’). Little English and even less information.
Most folks knew bupkis. Some has their own opinions and theories – even if they hadn’t know of the event before I spoke with them! Others offered information on other torts, crimes, events and neighbors.
As if I cared.
Eventually, I gathered up the big collection of negative data and coalesced it into a big report, signifying nothing.
I’m certain the lawsuit was eventually settled between the various homeowner’s insurances involved. And their attorneys.
And my boss got a cut of one attorney’s fees. I got my usually hourly wage, sore feet and worn-out shoes. Pretty sure I didn’t make enough for a new pair, or even resoling.
Ah! The thrilling life of a private investigator. 🙂
Some Yale University students are demanding changes to the English Department curriculum: specifically, they don’t think it should feature so many English poets who were straight, white, wealthy, and male.
“It is your responsibility as educators to listen to student voices,” the students wrote in a petition to the faculty. “We have spoken. We are speaking. Pay attention.”
The “Major English Poets” sequence, a mandatory two-course commitment for English majors, is particularly problematic, according to the students. These classes cover Geoffrey Chaucer, Edmund Spenser, William Shakespeare, John Donne, John Milton, Alexander Pope, William Wordsworth, and T.S. Eliot. It’s not the most diverse line up, to be sure, but it’s the one that best reflects history the way it actually happened. Inarguably, these are the most influential poets in the English language.
But students think this sequence “creates a culture that is hostile to students of color.”
I don’t know where to begin on this. Seriously.
Let’s ask the Incas, or the Aztecs or the Sioux. Or the Australian aboriginal peoples. Or the Bantu.
Did predominantly White cultures subjugate, control and kill these people?* Yes. Have we spent the last one hundred + years or more trying to preserve primitive cultures, history, culture, etc. as a direct reaction to what happened before? Of course.
Is that enough? Maybe not.
But, eliminating Whiteness is not an answer. Show us the great Bantu poets and we will include them in poetry curricula!
Oh! Don’t forget to petition the Romans about the Etruscans or the Carthaginians.
Sorry, can’t do that – no one is left…
Perhaps they should consider attending a university in Zimbabwe?
*Did persons of the same color ALSO subjugate, control and kill these people? Yep.
(NOT to be confused with LSMFT**)
Kevin Baker (aka The Smallest Minority) ALWAYS brings it. If he doesn’t, he brings to us others who do. Brewing in his blogmind prior to the recent announcements regarding the firm placement of the cap on the Rule of Law, his latest megapost is truly worthy of your time.
Here is a taste:
In the intervening twelve-plus years I’ve done a lot of reading, observing, thinking and writing. I’ve currently got a bookmark folder entitled “Civil War” with about fifty links in it, and those are just the ones I knew I’d eventually want to go back to. Apparently I’ve been ruminating on this particular essay for a couple of years without realizing it. The piece that finally forced me back to the keyboard is a year-old post over at Sultan Knish, No Truce With the Left. It echos a lot of the sentiments I have posted here over the years, but as Daniel Greenfield is wont to do, he says it more eloquently than I. A short excerpt:
The left does not care about gay rights. If you doubt that, consider how many of the left’s favorite Muslim countries have gay rights. The left has recently divided its campaign passions between gay marriage and defending Iran. Iran denies the existence of gays and hangs them where it finds them.
The USSR treated homosexuality as a crime even while it was recruiting gay men as spies in the West. Cuba, the darling of the American left, hated both gays and blacks. The ACLU backed the police states of Communism. If the left supports an enemy nation, the odds are excellent that it is also a violently bigoted place that makes a KKK rally look like a hippie hangout.
To understand the left, you need to remember that it does not care about 99 percent of the things it claims to care about. Name a leftist cause and then find a Communist country that actually practiced it. Labor unions? Outlawed. Environmentalism? Chernobyl. The left fights all sorts of social and political battles not because it believes in them, but to radicalize, disrupt and take power.
The left does not care about social justice. It cares about power.
That is why no truce is possible with the left. Not on social issues. Not on any issues.
You should really go and read the whole überpost!

The Infamous No-Fly No-Buy Gun Bill HR 2578:
“Blatant Rape of the Constitution.”
— Legislators who proposed this should be removed from office —
Has anyone even read the bill that had democrats
staging a sit-in on the floor of Congress?
“No district court of the United States
or court of appeals of the United States
shall have jurisdiction to consider the
lawfulness or constitutionality of this section…”
It gets worse.
Under the excuse of fighting terrorism, these democrats, with republican allies, wanted to deny Americans their individual rights to travel by air — or obtain arms — without probable cause, without due process, and get this — without being able to view the evidence against them or face their accusers. Their accusers and the evidence remains a secret. Your rights would be denied solely by a secret-police list.
You can’t challenge the proposed law’s legality… because it hasn’t got any. It would not pass even the slightest scrutiny, and they know that, hence that clause above in bold. My republican senator from Arizona, Jeff Flake, supports this, smiling when he announced it on TV.
The people proposing this 17-page tyrannical travesty should be removed from office.
And THIS STATIST CLOWN is the more ‘conservative’ of Arizona’a two Senators! (The other being McCain!) Barry Goldwater must be spinning in his grave!
Even if you are not from Arizona, please contact this guy’s office in protest! (link below)
