“The Second Amendment does not apply to schools.”

Bruce Newcomb
Director Of Government Relations at Boise State University
February 28, 2014
Testimony before Idaho House State Affairs Committee

I don’t know which is worse;  The blanket WRONG statement by a governmental education bureaucrat, or the fact he IS said government education bureaucrat!!

I DO like Joe Huffman’s response to his statement, though:

“That’s odd. My copy of the Bill of Rights doesn’t have an exclusion for schools. If Mr. Newcomb’s does then that must mean he shouldn’t have a problem with him being convicted without a trial as long as it is done on school property.”

Rights are Rights!  When will the Left (who constantly trumpets the First Amendment in defense of radical Islamists, fascists and pedophiles) get that?

You can’t have it both ways!

And when is the Left going to get the concept that you ban guns in schools – you create massive targets-of-opportunity – school shootings occur…AND HOW IS THE PROBLEM SOLVED?

They call guys with guns to stop the problem!   Q.E.D.

Guns in Banks

Gun-toting bank manager fired from job at Oldsmar bank

Single mother Ivette Ros doesn’t go anywhere without her gun.

But the 37-year-old lost her job as a bank manager for bringing her gun to work at a Wells Fargo branch in Oldsmar.

“When we take our course for concealed weapons licenses, they do state the bank is a place we can take your weapon to, so I never thought otherwise until I was being questioned,” she said.

Ros doesn’t know who found out she was packing or how they found out, but she says bank security questioned her about the gun she was carrying. She says she was fired three days later.  …   (John Lott)

The courts, or at least lawyers, will fight this one out.

When I worked in the financial industry, the company was VERY clear there were to be no firearms on the premises.  Period.  Or in the parking lot; in our personal cars.  Or at company-sponsored functions – even if we weren’t being paid or after-hours.

Over-reaching a bit, I think.

Thankfully, the Arizona State Legislature addressed the parking lot issue positively.  And, as above, I suspect the other issues will be/or have been addressed in the courts or by lawyers.

Not exactly the same, but similarly…

I had a ‘friend’ some years back named Chip.  I’ve written about him in these pages.  He was a friend to me when I needed one, but was probably a sociopath.  He was, at the very least passive-aggressive.  We are no longer friends.

He was paranoid about being caught carrying a concealed weapon (before such a law existed in Arizona) so he did carry, openly.  A lot.  Now, as there was no CCW back then, the culture was different, and people were much more accepting of such behavior.

Back then banks were not off limits to gun carriers.  They still are not, unless, of course the dreaded statutory sign is portrayed (in AZ.).  But Chip would go to his bank regularly with his Colt Combat Commander in a belt holster for all to see.

I’m guessing some new clerk from a hoplophobic State saw it and freaked out.  Nothing happened in the bank.  He had done nothing wrong.

But, one Saturday morning about 0800, there was a knock on Chip’s apartment door.  Two large suited individuals stood there, imposing.  Chip used the pejorative word jamokes to describe them.

One spoke.  “We don’ wan’ chuz carrying yor gun in da bank anymore.”  (I’m certain his mimicking of the bank employee’s statement was slightly inaccurate in it’s portrayal.)

Chip nodded in the affirmative, and closed the door.  Then, on Monday morning, he tracked down the bank president and called him.  Such was his nature.

And he proceeded to dress down the bank, the bank president, his employees, his policies, and his lack of legal knowledge.

Then he moved his banking elsewhere.  I’m certain THAT told the bank president!

I’m all about every able-bodied, legally-able citizen to be able to carry.  Openly, concealed…I don’t care.  ANYWHERE.  Banks, schools, shopping malls, hospitals, where we work – anyplace bad stuff might happen.

Because bad stuff DOES happen.  And we cannot predict where or when.

But, let’s not be dicks about it.

Bigotry and/or Discrimination?

Army veteran banned from daughter’s school after posting picture of weapons permit, report says (on Facebook)

“I am a private person, however after serving OUR country, it is my DUTY to make sure that our lives are not infringed upon, however do it all within the confinements of the LAW, I am a law abiding citizen”

– Tanya Mount

Tanya Mount says she was approached by a police officer from the Richmond County Board of Education at McBean Elementary School and was warned that she was about to get a criminal trespass warning.

“I am a private person, however after serving OUR country, it is my DUTY to make sure that our lives are not infringed upon, however do it all within the confinements of the LAW, I am a law abiding citizen”

– Tanya Mount

The officer told her that the principal at the school was “scared” of her and did not want her on the school property, she told the station.

This proud woman is a veteran, a woman and a mother.  She is also Black.  Did this enter into the school’s ridiculous decision, or at least into the media picking up on it?  Seriously, if she’d been a middle-aged white guy, would this have made any news?

And here’s the link to the news story.

We need to see more and more of this! (he said, preaching to the choir…)

Legislators doing something RIGHT?

Two dozen House Republicans proposed legislation on Thursday that would allow off-duty and retired police officers to carry concealed weapons in school zones to help protection children from attacks.
Supporters of the Police Officers Protecting Children Act, H.R. 2541, say the bill would give schools the ability to seek this added layer of protection from random acts of violence, like the one that claimed the lives of 20 children last year in Newtown, Conn.
“This common-sense bill addresses a question on all of our minds: how do we keep our children safe?,” said Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.), the lead sponsor of the bill. “These dedicated men and women of law enforcement should not be barred from providing an extra layer of security for our schools just because they are off the clock or have retired from active service to their communities.” . . .

Now it’s just another step to ‘qualified’ civilians (trained, armed, civilian security and licensed CCWers), then the States need to go Constitutional Carry.

I know, I’m dreaming again…

Of course, WHY must we continue to go to our elected officials, hat (holster)-in-hand as it were, begging to be able to exercise our natural rights?hat

Sipsey Street Irregulars recounts for us idiocy in it’s highest form.

Those who know better.

Gunfire and moments of fear as a rural Oregon school tests its readiness.

Two masked men wearing hoodies and wielding handguns burst into the Pine Eagle Charter School in this tiny rural community on Friday. Students were at home for an in-service day, so the gunmen headed into a meeting room full of teachers and opened fire.

Someone figured out in a few seconds that the bullets were not drawing blood because they were blanks and the exercise was a drill, designed to test Pine Eagle’s preparation for an assault by “active shooters” who were, in reality, members of the school staff. But those few seconds left everybody plenty scared.

I’m with Dutchman6.  If I’d been present (and legally armed) I’d have shot the bastards!

Reminiscent of my security guard days, walking into a cafeteria right after an ‘armed robber’ put a gun in the cashier’s face.  It was Halloween and it was a friend of hers in costume.  I arrived five minutes later.

He would have been shot – right there.

…and Bob Owens, as well.  For not buying what they are selling.

WaPost op-ed blames whites for mass shootings; fact remains minorities are over-represented for ALL murder types, including mass murder.

an excerpt:

A pair of sister-researchers that make their living off the government teat have decided to blame white men for mass shootings:

Whites are under-represented by race in mass shootings, as are Hispanics, when you look at percentage of total population. Don’t take my word for it, either; look at the stats kept by über-left-wing Mother Jones.

Over-represented are Asians, like Virginia Tech shooter Seung-Hui Cho, One L. Goh, Jeong Soo Paek, Jiverly Wong, Byran Koji Uyesugi and Gang Lu who are all East Asian, and West Asian/Arabs, such as Nidal Hassan, and Abdelkrim Belachheb, whom the sisters dishonestly label “white.”

Also over-represented are black mass murders like Omar S. Thornton, Maurice Clemmons, Charles Lee Thornton, William D. Baker, Arthur Wise, Clifton McCree, Nathan Dunlap, Colin Ferguson, and we’re not even including the DC Snipers, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, because they are arguably serial killers instead.

While white mass murderers are given considerable airtime, black mass murderers are ignored by the mass media as quickly as they possibly can… including the racist Washington Post.

Are these overtly liberal sisters really sure they want to start playing race games? As it invariably leads back to the failure of progressive social engineering, I don’t think they do.

As for calling us racist, I’m certain someone will.  It’s their modus operandi.

The Triumvirate On Gun Control

There has been much gnashing of teeth in the past few days over the most recent school shooting.  Surely, the fact that I must use the term ‘most recent’ gives one pause.  Or the term ‘school shooting’ that doesn’t involve marksmanship practice.

And the Internet is all abuzz with sorrowful pleas for ‘they’ to do ‘something’.  I believe it’s human nature in that we all feel so helpless when such things occur.  We want ‘something’ to be done.

The President himself just released his proposals, including another assault weapons ban, a magazine capacity ban and restrictions on private sales of firearms.  (Of course, none of these measures would have stopped the homicidal, unbalanced criminal from the recent massacre of innocents.)

I’ve mentioned recent events a couple of times, and even wrote a couple yet unpublished posts, but many other bloggers have addressed the issues in a much more eloquent and informed manner than I.  If you’ve not seen these three recent postings, you should go to the links and read.  And think about what you have read.  And hope The Nation has enough wisdom to absorb these things, as well.  Links and excerpts below…

A Couple of Elephants by Old NFO

~The mental health community has morphed away from actually treating and committing people due to numerous lawsuits by, among others, the ACLU.  Also, due to ‘privacy’ concerns, many institutions will not report a person with mental health problems to NICS or even to local police.  You can go find articles that point out that the ONLY way to get someone committed is to have charges filed against someone.~

~A few school systems use School Resource Officers (SROs) who are either retired LEOs or are LEOs specifically hired to work in schools both for security. those SROs are armed, have full police powers and are directly connected to the local police departments via radio if they need assistance/backup.

Many were funded under programs from the Federal Government after Columbine…

However, those programs were de-funded by the current administration.~

Stop Teaching Our Kids To Kill by Dave Grossman, Lt. Col. USA (ret.) (via Maddened Fowl)

~Research on the background of our juvenile mass murderers show they have one thing in common:  they ALL dropped out of life and filled their lives with nothing but violent movies and violent video games.  The sickest video games and the sickest movies are very very sick indeed.  And the sick sick kids who immerse themselves in this “entertainment” are very sick indeed.
~And it is a world-wide phenomenon!  Germany has had two mass murders in their high schools with body counts that beat Columbine.  England had a massacre in the kindergarten class in Dunblain Scotland, tragically forecasting Sandy Hook.  Canada had the Taber, Alberta school massacre.  Finland has had three school massacres.  In Norway the killer got on an island and killed all their kids.  In China killers are going in the classrooms with knives and gutting and hacking the kids.  In Belgium a sicko got in the day care center and hacked 12 babies in the cribs, dressed as the Joker from the Batman movie.  (All those European gun laws made THEM real safe, eh?)
And we though it wouldn’t happen here!?

And you think its over now?  The worst is yet to come.  We will reap what we sow for a generation to come…. Until we stop teaching our kids to kill.~

Feeling Good by A Girl and Her Gun

~My extra bag of rice, my gun, my ammo, my kerosene heater are of real value to my survival. I used no government funds to purchase those items. In fact the purchase of those items only helped contribute positively to a failing economy. I have never harmed a single person. I am of no threat to you. Your desire to label me crazy and limit my rights will only serve to put me at more risk and it has ZERO chance of doing anything for you other than to make you feel good.

Please forgive me, but your facade of happiness just isn’t worth my life. I won’t hand it over without a fight.~

The mental health crisis/real school security, video games as parenting, and the desire to absolve our guilt – to feel better – all need to be addressed and solved, lest these behaviors continue.  And lest our rights be taken away for no good reason.

PS – Bobbi punctuates EVERYTHING with common sense!

~Know the facts.  Know the “official facts” even if you choose to doubt them — and get expert advice.  The “rifle found in a car” was contentious issue here at Roseholme Cottage, until Tam found video of it being removed: it’s a scary, black…pump-action shotgun! She was pretty sure of make and model from the low-rez image, thanks to her years shooting and working at gun stores. (Remember, the media talking heads reporting this stuff know a lot less about guns than you do — and they’re being briefed by police who are used to dumbing things down for them.)~

~Know your audience.  In my blog, I can talk about the deterrent effect of removing legal barriers to teachers and school employees being armed if they chose to be (and qualify for whatever carry permit their state offers!).  In the lunchroom at work, not so much.  Don’t be That Guy; we can’t afford it just now.~

OKAY, that’s really four, not three!  Regardless, take a few minutes and read each of these wise bloggers’ entire posts.  I’d say doing so is for the children, but that would just be pandering.  It’s for ALL OF US!

Newtown, Connecticut

Connecticut school shooting: 20 children among 28 dead

It’s being reported by multiple sources that one shooter is dead, a second remains at large.

Please keep the innocent souls in this horrible event in your thoughts and prayers.

Of course, even with few facts, the usual folks are clamoring for more gun control – as if criminals obey all the current laws.

"Round up the usual suspects."

In Loving Memory…
