AH! The ‘Stuff’ Of The Internet…

I try to limit the flotsam and jetsam (i.e. Spam) in my primary email inboxes.  Not because I fear viruses (I do!) but because they are a waste of time.

But, spam filters being imperfect, sometimes ‘things’ get through!

Witness below:

(From a free DVD!)

Would You Like To Own A 100% Legal Glock 9mm That The Government Doesn’t Know Exists?…
Using Nothing But A Hacksaw, File, Drill And This Breakthrough FREE DVD You Can Literally Create A Fully Functional Undetectable Glock 9mm In Your Garage In Under An Hour, Just Like This…
P.S. This is currently 100% legal in all 50 states and I’d love to give it to you for free right now…
(Now, if memory serves, BATFE rules state you can ‘make’ your own firearm for personal use.  Whether or not this kind of ‘making’ is allowed under the rules I’m reluctant to test!  And the rules may have been changed w/o them notifying me!)
Not to mention, I’m mechanically challenged.  I can completely disassemble (and reassemble) a standard AR15, a S&W ‘old-school’ revolver and most Browning-designed semiautomatics.  I ‘accurized’ a 1911 by taking a raw barrel bushing and using only my hands, sanded the barrel contact surface until the barrel just made it through.  Took about 4 hours.
BUT, building a ghost gun from parts?!
Yeah, I don’t know…
Plus, what if you are carrying it and questioned by the local police.  Will they know it is technically legal?
And there’s that whole BATFE thing!
Not for me!
To the spam cave!
(If you are interested in such things, I’m certain the Internet will provide the link.  I won’t.)

The Best Laid Schemes Of Mice And Men

aft gang agley* (oft go awry – Robert Burns, the poet laureate of Scotland)

I’d plans to ‘improve’ and edit my blog, prior to the Sixth Blogoversary (March 5).  I definitely need to edit out of The Usual Suspects (my blogroll) those who are no longer blogging, or have left the grid.

I have not yet done that. 😦

A general observation of my blogging world – It saddens my to two of the finest bloggers out there (Brigid and Tamara) have had to change their blogging formats to by invitation only (in Brigid’s case) and no comments allowed (in Tam’s), both allowing for responses in other venues (FB and Borepatch guest blogging status (in Brigid’s case).

Because of attacks in print by certain blog readers!

I’ve had a few spammers in my six years, but considering the difference in volume and quality of Brigid and Tamara vs. Guffaw, it’s completely understandable I’ve had many fewer.

I will continue my lowly blog, until it no longer is physically possible, or I lose the need for morning discipline and structure.

We come now to one of my first Internet-blogging friends.  Rev. Paul.  Paul lives in Alaska with his family, and has been a virulent supporter of both this blog and this blogger!  His blog Way Up North is rife with tales of the weather, local crime, politics, and moose pictures(!)  And often religiously-themed (he IS a Rev., after all) messages of hope for all, whether religious or not.

He announced recently he will be cutting back from almost daily posting to occasionally.  Because reasons.

And, this too, makes me sad.

All three of these fine folks have been anchors for me, have given me much which to aspire, and have supported me to a degree they will never know.

It was said a few years back that blogging is going the way of the dinosaur, what with FB, Snapchat, Flickr, Google+, Twitter, and numerous other avenues almost daily being added to the list of social networking.

To all fellow bloggers and friends out there, please keep blogging, reading and commenting.

I’m to old to change formats!  😛

*”Tae a Moose, on Turning Her Up in Her Nest with the Plough[1] (English: “To a Mouse“)(Wikipedia)

From a name-long-forgotten children’s joke book:  “Robert Burns wrote ‘To A Field Mouse’.

“I bet he didn’t get an answer!”

(The fact this was a joke book for grade school children further shows how the American public education system has failed.  Ask any grade school (or junior high, or even high school) student who Robert Burns was, or what ‘To A Field Mouse’ is.)

I’ll bet you won’t get an answer!

More Spam!

I don’t check my weblog spam file very often.  (or my email account spam, truth-be-told!)

If I somehow missed a legitimate comment by you, my apologies.

The reason(s) I don’t check:  here is a sampling from the current spam listed:

  • porn videos
  • naked free webcam girls
  • If you’re like most of my clients, you want to shine more attention on your Social Media presence. If that’s the case, let me take your Social Media Marketing over the TOP!Our Promotion Packages:
  • viagra pills for sale in canada/Online casino & Gambling Industry Numbers Revealed
  • Benefits additionally must be redistributed and workers want
to pay attention to the tax and retirement
consequences to getting an unplanned money infusion, it is not really
    a bonus.

Yeah, none of that interests me.  Especially when the social media spam is a comment on a post from years ago regarding a .44 Special revolver.

Besides, I’m nowhere near Canada!

😛

Yep. Still Here…

Surprisingly.

Having issues, yet again, with computers.

First, printer problems.

In an effort to fix those, after much rebooting and gnashing of teeth (and other technical stuff), I ‘got rid’ of programs I thought might be gumming up the works, by restarting my computer.

Wrong choice.

The reconfigured, updated machine seemed very slick!  But then, the ghost in the machine appeared.

I was (and am) unable to access the INTERNET via my PC.  I called the ‘tech support’ number provided, and believe it to be a spam site trying to extort funds from me to get my computer back!

They said I owed money for the FREE Windows 10 upgrade I did a month or more ago!

And kept pressuring me, in an East Indian accent!  (Not that all help desk folks with that accent are crooked!)

SO, here I am doing my blog post from my cheap, PRC tablet.

SIGH.

And I don’t know how long (or if) I’ve the technical expertise – or patience – to update my quote, funny and video.  😢

And if Microsoft is indeed extorting funds, I’ve no way to pay them.

(This just in – after running limited diagnostics, and system restore, I seem to be ‘back’.  Yes, some programs are now gone from the reconfigure, but the spam (or MS extortion attempts) seem to have abated!)

Knock-on-wood!

SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM II

at least it's with BACON!

at least it’s with BACON!

Yes, my friends, SPAM has reared it’s ugly head, yet again.

Not the unwanted and unwarranted comments by advertisers and weirdos…

BUT, for some unknown reason, two of my favorite supporters (and Internet friends), Brigid and Old NFO had recent comments sent to the SPAM file!

Mea culpa

I just need to check the SPAM file more often!

Sorry

Sigh.

Sometimes, The Internet Is GOOD! (Czasami Internet jest dobry!)

I had a recent stray blog comment post regarding a post I made some time ago.  Many times when this happens, it’s simply
SPAM, and I ignore it, or mark it as such.

This time, the comment was in POLISH!  🙂

Odnaleźć dziś na prawdę świetnego bloga nie jest takie łatwe,
dlatego cieszę się, że tu trafiłem

So, with the substantial aid of Google Translate, I translated it, and responded in kind:

Find today really great blog is not so easy,
I am glad that I came here
Dziękujemy! Prosimy o ponowne
(Thank you!  Please stop by again…)
Of course, it still might have been SPAM, but they weren’t selling anything, so I thought might as well be polite!

(More) Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam…

spamOops, I did it, again!

I recently (due to problems I had with Firefox and IE10) opened up Google Chrome.  I know, it’s the dreaded Google.

And I’ve been very happy with the result whilst blogging – lightening fast, no pop-ups.  Secure and stable.  A good choice.  (Which coincidentally works with my new (to me) smartphone (Android – another Google product).

But, I’ve noticed not only did I not have SPAM, I also wasn’t seeing email copies of post comments by many folks – some regulars.  And I finally got around to checking my SPAM files.

Huzzah!  Therein lie the heretofore unaccounted emails…

Hopefully, all has been corrected, now.  We shall see.

SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM…

When I was recently responding to comments on a posting I’d made, I noticed my SPAM file.  Now, I used to check it with some regularity (insert joke here) but lately, I’ve been remiss.

And I found FOUR recent comments by a blogger and friend known to me that were culled out as SPAM!

WTF?

SO, I marked them as NOT spam, made some apologetic responses, and sent them on their merry way.  I then sent an email to my correspondent, in case he wondered what had happened.

I didn’t see any other missing commentary (in the usual chaff of LIKE YOUR BLOG-THIS IS WHAT I SELL and faux-Viagra ads)

BUT, if you’ve recently written a comment (thank you very much btw!) and didn’t see it, please let me know.  And please, no more boner pill ads.  They upset the cat.

"Round up the usual suspects."

In Loving Memory…
